Thanks again guys. I do my best to keep you up to speed on my situation.

No luck on any kind of letter of recomendation (except from the staff pharmacist whom is farly close to my age and I had taken to the range on numerous occasions, he said to let me know if I need one)

Still havent heard back yet on the possiblity of resigning instead of just being terminated.

I spent the day today applying for new jobs.

This crap couldnt have happend at a more inconvenient time for me, I just purchased an AR-15 for 800 bucks and my friends wedding is in a few days and my plane tickets are non-refundable, not to mention a college class schedual that prevents round the clock availability.

I'm also a college student working for a large retail chain, and my company (Sears) is so afraid of litigation that they will not comment on anything about an employee other than the length of employement. They will only discuss the reason for termination if it's for a documented crime. I don't know if it's a nationwide thing or California specific, or what other retailers policies are, but you might not have to fear the company tattling on you since no crime was committed.

before I was old as dirt and in another chapter in my life I worked for a very large national company. We instructed our people to always give the bear minimun out as far as any circumstances surrounding employment for the exact reason given in the last post.

It's illegal to discuss employment other than to verify legnth of employment. This has been the case for many years. A potential employer can run a background check to verify this information and probably would never contact the previous employer.

well...Im glade to know that discussing employment is illegal for other than length of employment. I had heard that Walmart doesnt discussing anything other than that but I didnt know that it was a legal issue.

still no word on being able to resign.

still looking for a job.

Don't wait for them to get back to you. Deliver a letter of resignation to them. This puts them in the hot seat to decline it.

My problem now is getting a job elsewhere is going to be next to impossible, I've worked there for 3 years, almost 4 and I cant just not leave that off of an employment application. And when they are called for reference and to ask why I was fired you guys know what will be said.
I believe that if your former employer says anything about you that is detrimental and it prevents you from getting a new job, you can sue them.

Most employers will just confirm that you were employed with them from the date you were hired to the date you left and your job title as to avoid lawsuits.

I would check it out.

Not that it matters too much in this case, but I don't think that it is illegal at all to comment about an ex-employee. An ex-employer might be held liable for his comments if they prejudice future employment, but it isn't illegal. Certainly it is legal to say that someone was a great employee, but this would NEVER come from an HR rep, it would always come from a direct supervisor ... and at Sam's I can't imagine being able to contact a supervisor there.

I agree that you should just resign and beat them to the punch ... that way you can say you quit and still be honest about it. Send it now and send it certified mail!

My wife is head of HR at a big retal store in piegon Forge,Tenn. She said all they can say is how long you worked for them, they don't want to be sued. This is a multi-million dollar store & she knows her stuff.

just a quick update.

I have my first interview today at home depot for the tool rental department.

other than that I dont have any other news, however, I have decided to get a NAA Gaurdian or a Seecamp LWS. any thoughts?

both are good the seascamp has real good almost hand crafted rep.. they sell at premium ..I like NAA but only have the derringer...

I'm also a youngin (21) and was raised safely around guns, I feel you brother. Unfortunately at my job I work in a dangerous area but the rules at my work prevent absolutely any type of weapon being carried/kept in the car, even down to pepper spray. They "reserve the right" (and have done it aparantly) to search vehicles parked on the property for weapons.

I've started taking the only thing they havent excluded and keep a 3 D-cell maglite in my car. I figure its better than nothing.

have you considered working for a gun store? (I think they'd hire you in a second)

well, I feel that my first interview went well, my school schedual is gonna be a conflict here though.

Trent,

I applied at the biggest gun store/shooting range in my area and inquired at the second largest (both of which i shoot at often) but so far no luck, the other gunshops in the area are mom and pop type and probably dont need anyone.

I too keep a 3 D cell maglite in my truck, screw drivers make for a pretty good close quaters impact weapon aswell.

What company do you work for?

I dont understand how any company can "reserve the right" to violate the 4th Amendment, or any of our rights for that matter.

I work for a big shipping company that likes to wear purple (you have 3 guesses), it makes sence for the company to restrict weapons on the employees person (we work at the airport). but the fact that I get off of work at around midnight and am driving through The city, stopping at red lights makes me wish I had my lil p-64 by in reach (heck I'd settle for my 1895 Nagant revolver)

The parking lot is not even safe, there have been crimes commited in our fenced in lot, and the oh so great security guards do absolutely nothing (some are probably involved). One just looked at me like I was an idiot and went back to what he was doing a few days ago when I saw and reported a suspicious person hanging out by the entrance. grrr >:(
