How are you carrying the P-64?
Thank you I do carry it often, but unfortunately don't get to shoot too often. A few weeks back my wife and I had a "date night" our toddler at grandmas so we had fun at the range.

+1 with carguy
Cleaning after shooting should be your main concern, however, having said that, I am assuming, which is a dangerous thing to do, that you have broken it down and competely cleaned it, there is a lot of cleaning to do with all the cosmoline that these little Polish Pounders were storied in, so your first cleaning should be the most important. Some even require soaking for several hours before cleaning starts, just keep in mind that even a small bit of hardened cosmoline can cause problems in any gun. Happy Cleaning........... ;D

When I bought it here at a small gun shop the guy and his father assured me I didn't need to clean any oil out of it. The gun seemed clean and dry and I had no problem while shooting it. I did give it a great cleaning after. I think it's ok. Would there have been any signs if I was wrong? Also they reccomended a grease for the rails not oil does that sound right?

Also should I strip it down totally completely or just the partial?

Lubrication is a personal thing so isn't oiling your gun...
...bah dum bum there goes that rim shot again!
Sorry I just couldn't resist.
Seriously, I have never "greased" a gun in my lifetime and have never had a problem. I do regularly oil my guns. Not too aggressively just a good dose and wipe leaving a film to coat and protect. I have seen too many guns with grit and grime stuck in places where no grit or grime should be. And this from grease meant to keep the gun in working order that acts like a magnet, attracts, catches and never lets go of whatever it can find. That is never good for a firearm. Others swear by greasing up the rails etc.
You will have to find what works for you (convenience with cleaning, comfort in carrying, proper function, noticable wear and tear).
Good luck and keep posting. 8~)

I got to tell you guys I live in northeast ohio and it's tough to get advice or answers most folks around here(Cleveland area) involved with guns have such elitest attitudes. People try to make you feel like an idiot if you don't own the guns they do. Now that I am so new to this P-64 etc I appreciate getting honest advice

michaelap,
There are experts everywhere, not just where you are in NE Ohio, we got em here too, and most are educated beyond their intelligence, if educated at all. This board has been and I personally believe will remain rational, realistic, practical and evenhanded, this is my home board, I belong to several, but this is the one I come to first and last everyday.

It is funny how at one moment I'll meet someone at the Gun Club that have loads of firearms, share the experience and their knowledge not for their own egos but to see you enjoy their guns and friendship and others when people are idiots.
I took my son and my daughter's boyfriend (first timer shooter) to the club last sunday. We shot trap, rifles and pistols at 2 ranges. We met an acquaintance there and he allowed us all to plink alittle with a Winchester 700 (I think it was a Winchester...Police Sniper rifle...his personal one not the one he uses at work...guess what he does!?) Anyways we had a ball all morning and that was the icing on the cake.
I've had other experiences with know-it-alls that are more impressed with their collection and knowledge of it and everything else than anyone else...fewer of these than the sniper friend thank goodness.
I chose to join this club because of their down to earth reputation. There is a club closer to home but if I showed up with my $300 shotgun or "GOD forbid" my $79 Mosin Nagant I'd be spat upon by the $10,000 shotgun toting snobs!
Remember it takes a village and every village has at least one idiot! Don't let it get you down...now you have us! ;D
