P-64 jams?

Post by nbender »

mirother may be a spammer, but it looks more likely that he's trying to sell some aftermarket springs. For Who?? That doesn't look good for Forward Supply.

P-64 jams?

Post by steve98664 »

Daniel truly has a problem. I believe he posted on Gunboards, but everyone there had him convinced that it was a mag issue. I think I recognize his comments from there in the military pistol section. I recommended he check things out here!

I have never heard of any original mags causing this problem. MGMike on Gunboards actually mentioned that to him..... He may not have original mags if the pistol came from a private party. Anyhow, he has been misled to believe that jamming problems on surplus pistols, including P64's, are always due to bad mag springs or mags.

I think that many folks don't realize how bad the problems can be from dried cosmoline inside their new P64 where they can't necessarily see it. I think the recommendation here for soaking which I've seen Norm and others recommend sounds like the smartest thing. He should soak his mags too and clean them out if he suspects that area.

THe only mags I would NOT trust 100% are the ones from forward supply. I mention this simply based on the photos posted here that show slight variance in the mags that forward supply recently had made. Maybe they are ok. I haven't tried them, but they do have slight differences in the pictures I've seen posted. The originals have no history of failures to my knowledge.

I would still like to get new springs for mine, just a habit I have replacing them on a pistol new to me. I'm hoping WOlff will sell them at some point, but there's probably not a lot of demand due to few/no failures!

It could be a lot of things causing the the problem. Safety dropping as I experienced, extractor problem whether worn or the spring, or something else. If it is an unissued, most of these problems seem unlikely, unless its a bad spring.

My experience is a good clean by drenching or soaking, ramp polish, and correct ammo go a long way to solve most folks issues like this. For me, using awesome feeding S&B ammo helped define my problem.

I think Norm is taking this one on one-to-one and he is pretty sharp with this type of problem!

I hope Daniel has not gotten a P64 modified by somebody then sold in non-working condition. Lots of folks snipping things and such as mentioned above. I think all original parts non-modified, including mags, is the best starting point for troubleshooting on these.

I would like to hear how this one turns out!

I hope all of it is not just spam from Foward supply to try to sell mags.

Steve

I think I can solve must problems quick and easy over the phone
but I need a phone # to call them or they can call me , I can't help if I can't talk to the person,
I'm here to help where ever I can

I suspect he didn't get all the Cosmolin out of the gun or the mags
like others have said the mags that came with these guns a barely used if used at all

Yes also waiting to hear what is causing the problem, the cleaning of everything ,including the mags, and also the slide rail and around the ejector has really improved the overall operation... I think we have all been amazed just how much crud and old grease ,cosmo. can still be in these guns.
I used a hair drier after I really cleaned them and still had stuff oozzing out of place the sun dont shine... Never had any problem with the mags other then crud from storage..

P-64 jams?

Took a little trip to FL, so I'm a tad late here. Thanks to Norm and several others on this board, its not easy to pull the wool over our eyes, yes, we have some different opinions on things, ie., springs, grips, ammo, etc, etc, but the whole time I have been on this board, I never heard of a mag problem till Forward Supply signed up and started trying to flim-flam us. I have owned 5 different P-64's over the past two years, and most came with 3 mags, never have I had a problem with any one of them, all fed perfectly once "CLEANED", and on most, I didn't have to even clean them. So the worn out mag issue is "BOGUS". I do appreciate that we try to explain to the new members about these issues in a manner that doesn't run them off and especially Norm taking his time to call or be called and explain issues and ways to fix them, we are fortunate to have him on this board, as we are for several others who have helped the newbies with the P-64 pistol when they have had a problem.

to use a Papabear thing -----+1 for Papabear----
Really agree on all the helpful people here. I know Norm helped me out with emails and phone calls when I first came here and he was so patient with me as a newbie.. others here are just as helpful it is a great group... I really prefer to think it is not a thing about Forward supply but then I still believe in tooth fairy ...hope it was just someone trying to be helpful. and believe that...and I let it be so

Yep, after talking to Norm on the phone about a problem I'd had for 2 or three days ( slide was so jammed locked I could not get it off the frame). I literally had problem solved and my P-64 back together ready to fire within 10 minutes. You just can't beat that. Norm really knows the P-64. :)

When I grow up I want to be just like Norm...8~)

You guys are the best, its fun to read and sometimes participate in the banter but all in all it's lika a big family all centered around the CZAK.

We need a get together! Everybody over my hose for a cookout!(that's northeast for Barbeque!) LOL!

I wish we weren't so spread across the country that would be a party!!

In case you guys haven't heard it enough, thank you for your patience with everything and...I luv ya man! 8~)

P-64 jams?

Post by steve98664 »

Norm, you have more patience than most! I'm glad you were able to help out Dan and that is was a real deal. I think he may just have been convinced it was a mag issue by others.

Honestly, mag issues are common for other surplus pistols like my P-1 or my CZ-70. It just sounded so odd to have 2 folks chime in so quickly about P64 mag issues for this type of problem when it hasn't been an issue for many, many others on their P64's.

As the imported pistols and mags age, we may see problems on them. I am curious if we'll see a wave of imported P64's that are not unissued. Maybe P64's that are worn, aged, well used. I was wondering if this P64 was like that until Norm mentioned otherwise.

P-64 jams?

I don't think I've heard of a mag problem with a P-64 since I've been posting here. All 12 of my mags, which are all origional Polish arsenal magazines, work fine with any ammo I shoot and in which ever of my 4 P-64s I shove them into. I did have to smooth the point of the lips on 2 of them to accomodate Silver Bear 115gr HPs early on, but have had it impressed upon me that round might be a little much for the general health of my P-64s, with the origional springs, and I tend to agree with that sage wisdom.

The idea of a 20 lb recoil spring coupled with the 18 lb mainspring and the corresponding firing pin spring sounds to me like it might make shooting the 115gr safely possible. I'm waiting to get a lot of feedback from all you guys before I make any changes.
