I heard of a Chinese Tokarev in 9mm locally. I had previously seen some 9mm TTs on auctions and was told they were dangerous. I don't recall why. I'm wondering if anyone has any knowledge or experience with these. Are they legit? I'm told they were simply made for export and with the more modern 9mm caliber (not the 7.62 tokarev) they have little historical or collector value. The owner claims to have bought it and tucked it away...never shot a round through it. Asking $225.

I'm looking for a range beater that is economical and durable. Does that translate to CZ-52 or this TT or something else? I'm leaning toward something more modern thus the 9mm caliber search (thinking of a Beretta 92fs, S&W 39 etc...obviously used)

Your opinions are appreciated. 8~)

I think I just have the need to buy something, I don't shoot everything I have as it is. I am looking for something larger than the P64/Bulgy/CZ82. I fell in love with the Beretta Cheetah 380 but they are bringing alot of money for another small/mid-size pistol!

HELP!

Okay never mind...my son has given me the most important opinion of all...his. He prefers a modern handgun like the 92FS or a CZ Rami etc. Now the search is on and the scrounging for pennies!

I know you are no longer interested but that price is no good on the tokarev, there is a chinese 9mm sitting at a pawn/gun shop down here in Georgia, with a spare magazine for $150

Thanks all, opinions are what I wanted. Appreciate the direction and yes I have looked atthe Star but they are unfortunately not on the Official Massachusetts Attorney General's Approved List of Compliant Handguns thus can't buy them unless someone already has one in state and wants to sell it with no dealer involvement. They sure are inexpensive! And I love those Browning clones!!! Wow! But again...the LIST.

I've been searching the C&R lists on Gunbroker etc for a Star B but my son is leaning on me to move away from a 1911 style and towards something more "modern", thus the 92FS keeps coming up! And I do like it alot so I may chase a deal there soon.

Thanks again! 8~)

Carguy, as a dyed-in-the-wool CZ-52 lover, I would point out that you can easily convert the CZ-52 to 9mm. Sportsman's Guide sells the barrel and that's all you need. I personally haven't done it myself, but I've heard of those who have and the pistol remains accurate, and misfires are occasional. That would be acceptable for plinking and range shooting, not for self-defense. Most persons acknowledge that the CZ-52 is much stronger than a Tok, and it has a host of after-market items, including that 9mm barrel I mentioned.

Whatever you choose, best of luck!

Thanks

I'm gathering info right now. I still haven't gotten the credit card bill from Labor Day when I picked up 2 shotguns for my son and me. So any additional "fun gun" is on the back burner anyways.

It's getting harder and harder to buy new firearms and get them in the house without my wife finding out!! Especially since my son is so into it now we are always talking about, planning or actually at the range...she is feeling a little left out. I wish she would get involved with shooting even a little, but to no avail...yet.

I picked up 2 "preowned" shotguns for a new endeavor with my son...trap shooting.

I bought a very nice Winchester 1200 pump / 12 ga / 28" / with interchangable chokes, my guess is about 95% condition (minor scratch on the barrel) for $210. Real fast action but I think there is a plug in the tube as it will only hold 2 shells. No matter, shoot no more than doubles anyways in trap.

I bought myself a Baikal O/U 12 ga / with a little engraving on the receiver and double triggers, again my guess, about 99% condition for $300, not a mark on it, action as tight as a drum.

I haven't had the chance to shoot either yet. Both my son and I want to get onto the range and shoot a little in private before we go on trap nights when the club is open to the public. Neither of us wants to embarass ourselves too much right away!!

Hey Carguy ! I am a Winchester Fan and I think you'll really like that 1200 pumpgun ! I have the 1400 semi-auto that I love ! Dad got it for me when i was around 16-ish. I will pass it on to one of my grandsons eventually . It has brought me many memories and meals over the years and still looks great and runs like a Chevy ! Sweeeeet! I really suck at shooting clays when they are moving ! hahaha Good Luck hitting those things ! I ended up using the leftovers along fence posts and plinking them down the line with rifles. My brothers have a dual thrower down at the farm and one of them just bought a 410 ga. O/U Savage and I took it out and fell head over heels for it ! Maybe I will attempt it again this summer. Anyways, I saw you got the Winchester 1200 and I hope you get alot of tiny Clay dust and pieces from Using it ! You sound like a great Father ! G

P.S.= can you post some pics of the Baikal ? Please, Thanks Man !

There is another browning HP clone that I've only heard stellar reviews about. Its a Bulgarian Arcus, I'm thinking of getting one myself. It looks pretty modern as well.

I'm not an FFL so I don't know how much century arms charges for them, I'm sure someone around here can though.
