These are pics of some 7.62 x 54r Ammo I have that has some serious flaws in them !
I'd like to extend this topic from the "Old Wolf Ammo Mishaps" thread , in case anyone else would like to add their "Ammo Failure/ Oddities " Pictures to it!!
Hopefully this topic will get alot of pictures added to it so that bad ammo can help teach us all what to look for and what to avoid.
Hey Carguy ! Was this anything like that Ammo you had, that you mentioned in another post? about the hole or dent in the neck/shoulder area?
Anyway~ This Ammo was in a light blue box with a piece of Tape diagonally across the face of the box. It is Milsurp and I paid $2 a box ,20 rnds. per box. the headstamp is : " 85" (top), and "3"(bot.) Brass case,Berdan primed. I think it was Bulgarian or Russian, but , perhaps even Chinese Ammo.
Try to remember to Look Ammo over Really Well when you buy it !

Garry, Did this cause any damage to your rifle? I was just looking at getting a M44 or 91/30 from Classic and they have some surplus Bulg. ammo. 300 rounds for $37.50 but I dont want to trash a new gun or get myself messed up.

This was a very soft primer and the hole is so deep ,you can see black burnt primer material thru the sides. It is Russian Milsurp ammo, green lacquered steel cases. Headstamp is marked in Cyrillic : " OXn " and " 99" on bottom. It is so heavily lacquered that it was hard to read and worse yet ...I had to slam the cleaning rod down the barrel after almost EVERY STINKING(literally) SHOT to un-Stick the now "glued-in" cases !!!!!grrrr
i must add this... This foul crap was pretty accurate ! G

That 2nd picture from the top is like mine, where I've seen some marks (lines/grooves) that I'm afraid might foul and end up looking like that if I fired them. Thank goodness there were only a handful.
Those are the Surplus Bulgarian in the 300 round spam cans that I got and only about 8% of them had "issues" that I decided to dump. The rest has been great...so far.

I was not injured in any way. in fact , i was made dileriously happier as every shotrang out ! woot ! woot ! I looove to shoot ! haha I was lucky tho probably, and if i would have looked them over better maybe I still might have bought them tho and salvaged what I could at that low price ,because, I like milsurp ammo for blasting away at targets because they are inexpensive. frequently above average accuracy. HOWEVER , there is no way to predict what might happen and it is probably best to avoid any ammo that doesn't look good after a brief inspection.
As for the M44 that I used to shoot this Ammo ?~ It is fine ! It is More than fine ! Those Mosin Nagants' are some big, badass, Battle Rifles. They are hard to break. They were Made for Defending Their Country, And they likely still do!
Any more pics ? anyone?
NBender posted a picture of bad Wolf 9mmMak Ammo in this post that got me to thinking about it. (

I use a lot of milsurp stuff as matter of fact most of the time.I have been lucky and never had any problems. however one caution dont use the ammo that was being sold in the MG links. ..in the russian manual it is clear not to use it.
I have had the "glue problem" and it is annoying as all get up. Now dont laff but what I have done when I see the problem occurring or can just see the build up I just lightly oil the rounds and that seems to stop the stickly..hey it worked for me..
oops forgot to mention it was 762x54 I was referring to for use in the iron stuff like rifles.

Here is another gas torched, burnt-thru case. It is the same ammo as the first pics above. G

Gary...
the headstamp 3 over 85 is Albanian ammo from 1985, notorious for problems with the case. I have 20 rds., I think I'll just keep that stuff until I'm desperate! The Bulgarian LB I have (no paint on tip) I got has about 9 out of 100 case splits right out of the can. Not too bad for milsurp, my M91/30 loves it! I have 3 cans so far.
The stuff with "oxn" (probably bxn) is Czech ammo, supposedly very good stuff, but some crap slips thru the crack ocassionally!
