First is there a special tool to handle the "slotted" nut that goes with the grip screw on my 1969 P-64? next no matter what I do the grips stay loose would I need new grips or just a new screw/nut?

if the nut is just loose after it's on take Little clear finger nail polish paint over the the nut where the screw sticks out

No the nut is on ok but its just a matter of time before that joke is cracked so I took care of it, really though the nut is on the screw seems tight but I don't have a good grip in it since it has that little slot. The grips move a little it doesn't seem right.

you can take a screw driver that fits the slots and grind the center out of the screw driver I've had to this to a lot of my screw driver bits for different projects

michaelap,
My P-64 has original grips and original grip screw. The grips are tight and don't move.

I have two P-64's. One has Dennis grips and the other is complete factory, springs and all. Neither set of grips budge at all.
Dumb question, are you sure that your grips are "snapped" in tight? You wouldn't happen to have them "kinda" on all the way?
Just a thought

No I understand but yes they do snap into place well, it's just when I press the tops of the grips I move them easily. Not a huge movement and I have not had any problems firing it as long as I used the original mag no problem at all so far.

Have you considered replacing them with another set of originals or a set of Dennis grips? I am wondering if you have some kind of damage with yours.
TN Guns has all of the parts you should need on their website.
