Mosin Nagant 91/30 Purchase

Post by bigbake132 »

I'm talking with a guy who's trying to sell his 1943 Mosin Nagant 91/30. It comes with the ammo pouch, sling, oil can, cleaning kit, bayonet, plus he's throwing in 30 rounds of ammo for $250.

In your opinion guys, is this a good deal or could I get a better deal elsewhere?

Thanks.

It's an OK deal the ammo is probably about $10 if the ammo is surplus and about$20 if commercial.

Classic is selling refurbs for $260 plus shipping and you would have to pay transfer fees if you don't have a C&R.

So $250 OTD would be an OK deal IMO if that is the case.

However you don't tell us what kind of shape it is in either.

Unfortunately that seems to be the going rate for a mosin. For me, at that price it would have to be an all matching, hex Tula, and shiney bore that's not counter bored.

He said he can give me a choice between commercial or suplus ammo. Its a Tula with a rounded receiver. The bore looks good, he said he hasn't fired it. He has a large collection of Mosins and wants to sell one off to downsize. It still has a little bit of cosmoline on it.

The parts are all matching except the bayonet.

The one I bought and posted here is from century arms and got it for 220.
Granted it was older and was without a sling. But I am happy with my purchase.

And all but the buttstock was a mismatch sorta. Technically they are all matching serial numbers now.

Well if you can't get one then I say go for it. But at the end of the day its up to you. I would.try to presuade a hex receiver out from him if his collection of mosins is big. A hex is still better then a round. The tula vs izzy debate seems pointless to me.

I too would go for the Hex receiver, but this sounds like an ok deal especially considering no paperwork or shipping $.

Not to mention the ammo. I would just get it all commercial , no need to get the surplus ammo. Especially if the person is letting you choose between them.

Right now classic has Finnish M-39 Moisins for $250.00 that has cracked stocks and / or light surface rust. Much better deal in my opinion.

You mean this one? It shows it as $399 to me. I see an option to save $100 if it has a cracked stock/light rust but that would bring it down to $299 not $250. Unless there's something I missed. Plus I would have to pay tax and shipping right?

Your right. It would be $299.00 +. Apparently I cannot read tonight but this is the one. Personally if paying another $50.00 was all it took to get a Finnish M-39, given the fact that I HAD another $50.00 I would get the M-39. It is a better rifle. And you still gonna have to pay shippibg if you get the Moisin right.

Lol your fine, I was really trying to find out where I could save the extra $50 at on the page haha. Yeah but it has a cracked stock and/or rust. This one has a good stock and without rust.

No were meeting local. Just paying cash.

Oh my bad Ketch they have two postings for two different manufacturers. Don't know why that would make much of a difference. One is Sako and is the $399 the other is VKT and is $349. Both have the -$100 for the cracked stock.

https://www.classicfirearms.com/finnish ... le-762x54r

Was it this one?

Edit: I checked the shipping prices and it comes to $20, plus it will be another $20 for the FFL transfer fee bringing the total to $290 for the one with rust or cracked stock. Is it that much worth it vs getting the '43 Tula 91/30 with the accessories plus 30 rounds? How much better will it shoot?

Get the Sako if you can afford it. The barrels are muuuch better. The Finns kinda re-engineered parts of the Moisin and made it better. They were using theirs as.snipers rifles into the 90's in their military if I remember proper and their shooting teams may still be using them. If you van only afford the VKT then you will still be better off. And I thought I rememberd there being a $249.00 option of that deal.
