I really would love to hear the reasoning someone would give for turning a 9mm (OK 9X18 but ...) into a 9X17. Why not just a pointed stick?

Ya just never know, I guess someone may have 20,000 rounds of 380 and no mak ammo to be had? That's all I got.

Hard to imagine doing this procedure at all!

Why lay down insults? There was definitely a time, not all that long ago, where ammo was very scarce, and there were threats about cutting off imports. AFAIK all of the 9x18 ammo out there is imported, mostly from Russia and other former Soviet bloc countries.
Sounds to me like Bubba may be smarter than you.

Hornady makes at least 2 excellent cartridges. The FTX with the polymer plug in the HP and the HTP without. Both brass 95gr 9X18 rounds. Buffalo Bore also makes some of their souped-up ammo in 9X18 brass HP and a hard-cast lead round, if I remember right. Plus there are others I've seen.snailman153624 wrote:There was definitely a time, not all that long ago, where ammo was very scarce, and there were threats about cutting off imports. And see? No insults.

I picked up a few boxes of Hornaday Critical Defense hollow points. Nice round! That's what I keep in the P64 magazines for defense. The P 64 is even more fun at the range with the Wolf spring set to lighten up the DA trigger pull, and a slightly wider wooden grip ro help with felt recoil.robhic wrote:Hornady makes at least 2 excellent cartridges. If you don't mind paying $1/round, sure, there are domestic mfrs.

Kinda' like when I had my dog neutered.
Re: .380 Bbl. For P64
Another reason you might want to do this is to revive one of those dirt cheap "Training" P-64s where the barrel and other places have been cut. Or to revive a "Gun Smith Special" P-64 that had a bad barrel. Would be a nice little project. But either way you would not want to do this to one that is fully functional.
