P-64 Trigger guard piece broken

Took out my P-64 to the range earlier this week shooting it for the first time. First 6 rounds went smoothly then came the second mag. After the 7th or 8th shot I believe, I guess my slide broke off the trigger guard piece that holds the slide in. As I shot the 9th round, the entire slide flew off  . Thank god no one or I was hurt. The only changes I did was replacing the recoiling spring to a heavier wolf spring and a lighter wolf trigger spring.

Now I need to get this to a gunsmith :(

This is NOT good. Glad you posted here. It will be interesting to hear other discussions and track this thread to see if this is a common weakness of this pistol design. I hope not. I just ordered one.

Thanks

Thanks for sharing the event and glad that no one was hurt! What kind of ammo were you firing? Is there a chance that they were hot reloads?

Glad there were no injures. There have been a couple of members that have posted this happened to them also in the past. viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4702

Keep an eye on gunbroker for the trigger guard.

There is also a post on the site somewhere on how to remove the trigger guard,

Good luck

+1 what Curly says and add: take it to a gunsmith is your choice. Instructions to DIY are on the forum (not a biggie if I remember right) and the cause is nothing you did. Probably just a weak/worn part (these pistols ain't new!) and changing springs shouldn't be an issue 'cause if it was I'd have had 9 of 'em.

GOOD LUCK AND DON'T DESPAIR.

This has happened to someone I know. Try the DIY bit, and keep us informed. This is why you need a couple P-64s, for parts, while waiting for the new parts to come.

Thanks for the response guys! I am most likely going to just try the DIY and replace the trigger guard with another one. I was shooting standard FMJ 94 grain Wolf ammunition.

Very glad there were no injuries. Sorry to see and hear about the mishap. I love my P64, I'd still be weeping if this would happen to mine. I hope you find a replacement part quickly.
