Nice looking Kimber Papabear. You also own a Star PD? I picked one up a couple of months back and LOVE it. And I know a guy that does custom grips for the PD that are awesome and very very affordable. How long have you had yours and where do you get buffers? And I would recommend changing out the swinging link on the Kimber for a hardened one. They don't use hardened links and I know of 2 that were owned by the same guy that locked up within 20 minutes of each other during a tactical shoot and had to be hammered closed with a wooden mallet cause the links stretched. I personally know this guy and he takes great care of his weapons, class 3 dealer AND manufacturer. Not a slam on your new piece just a bit of info to you. Love the bobbed tail on it.

Thanks Curly. Mine came with 5 buffers and an extra barrel fitted with a comp. Haven't shot it with the comped barrel yet. It shoots just nice without it. Loooooove that gun. Now looking for a Star BM.

Oh, and check this guy out for PD grips as well as other Star's, llama's and other hard to find grips as well as 1911's. I have his grips on my PD and Officers model, love hell out of them. And very good pricing, shipping is fast and he is great to deal with.

Look him up you will like him.

It's a beauty. You'll really notice how nice the dehorn job is on that gun after carrying it. Makes a huge difference. Also, I'm really fond of the bobtail - how does it shoot?

Thanks for all the comments and suggestions on my Kimber. As for the the swinging link mentioned by Ketchman which I appreciate, I had heard of this before, mine has been changed out with two springs instead of the traditional swinging link, one around the recoil spring guide and a stainless steel cap rides over the guide rod with a larger recoil spring wrapped around the cap so there is spring to spring contact. I also appreciate the link for the Star grips by 4S in Texas , nice looking grips and I'm sure I'll be making a order there soon.

Glad you liked the look of the 4S grips page, Reine is a treat to deal with and he does great work. If you look on his customers guns page you will see my Star PD as well as my RIA Officers 1911 both of which wear his grips now. Anyway, did I miss something PapaBear about the swinging link? How does the double captive recoil springs keep the swinging link from stretching? Please enlighten me, I am always looking to learn when it comes to firarms.

The replacement swinging link on my Kinber was replaced by a hardened double captive recoil springs to keep the swinging link from stretching, same as Curly1 posted the link for.

That set up reminds me of the double spring system in the Vis Radom.

Ok, I think I got it. It keeps the swinging link from stretching by slowing the compression timing and reducing the sharpness of the blow to the frame when the springs reach full compression, correct? Nice fix from an engineering standpoint but I think just using a hardened swinging link from the get go would have been better. Does anybody use a hardened link?
