P - 64 problem

Post by redfestiva »

After cleaning my P -64 I was putting the slide back on and it got jammed and now won't move. It is froze up in the locked rear position. The slide looks lined up with the lower body but won't slide forward and won't come back off. I havent had a problem with reassembly before, Only thing I did different this time is I was putting the slide back on while an emply magazine was in the lower half, I have always had that out before. I dont know if that made a difference.I thought that was the problem at first but when I released the magazine the slide was still frozen in place. The only thing I did was a field strip, slide off, recoil spring off, that's it. I have not resorted to any extreme force.Just pulling and tugging ( no hammer & vise ,crowbar). Any ideas to how I can free it up?????????

P - 64 problem

I experience this @ times. For me the bar on the left side gets shoved down while I'm trying 2 reassemble the slide. It's jammed fairly tight n the only thing I can do is grunt n jerk it back then pull up n take the slide back off. Then take the spring off n see if it goes back together. The bar can easily be pushed back up in2 position. It's just easy for me 2 push it down while I'm reassembling. Remember if it won't go down n gets stuck it has to go back up. Yank it back n pull up.........................

Problem solved. Thanks to some tips from Normsutton I got the slide off and the pistol back together. Turns out I had the recoil spring on backwards. I did'nt know it made a difference which end went on first. (small end goes on first).
