Terrible day at the range. Never even seen a jam like this..

Took both of my P-64's out this morning. Wanted to try a variety of ammo through them and ensure they're ready for CC duties. One of them functioned flawlessly with everything, and didn't have the issue where 6+1 causes a jam. Sweet.

However, the other... I never even got to fire. Every time I tried to chamber a round, this bizarre 3 point jam happened. It's like the round on top jammed into the roof of the barrel, while the round below that has nosedived. It was very difficult to un-jam, as it basically requires the slide to be pulled all the way back while you pull the mag release. After the first time it happened, I thought it was a fluke, and that if I try again with another mag, it couldn't possible happen again. Nope. Jammed right up the same way again.

Here's a pic of it. Any ideas on what in the blue frak is causing this? What stinks is that it's my pretty p-64 that's doing this! The "worn" one from AIM that has like 30% of the original bluing intact is the one that functions flawlessly.

Only mods to these are the spring swaps (18lb hammer spring, max weight recoil spring).

Did you flatten the ends of your new spring? I mean file/sand them down flat? Mine did that until I did....seems it bound up on the end when it was round.....works fine after I flattened the ends.

Didn't flatten the end of any of the springs. Did you mean the hammer spring or the recoil spring? Curious that my other P-64 would work fine without doing this though :D

Definitely willing to give it a try though. So, which one? And by the "ends," you mean the potions on each side that contact the frame/slide or mag release button / hammer?

Look at your original recoil spring. Both ends are flat. It made me crazy until I looked at the original one. Then I understood the recoil spring was rolling up on me. So I sanded (belt sander) the ends (both) down flat and it stopped rolling up on me.

Alright Sarge, you've got me convinced. Will head to the hardware store after work tomorrow and pick up some sandpaper. If this fixes things, I owe you a beer :D

Still surprised that my other P64 doesn't seem to care about the spring ends not being flat though. Just a difference in tolerances I guess.

LOL..you dont owe me anything as I learned it here on the board. I have 4 P-64's now. I swear they each have their own personalities.
One just hates my reloads....the other three eat 'em up...go figure....all set up exactly the same way.

so p-64's are like women? :D my pair of cz-82's are at least polite enough to respond the same way to everything. even though one does seem to have a lighter trigger than the other.

hey. wait. maybe it IS a polish thing. i have a pair of p-83's, and they each have their own personalities. one day i'm going to get mischievous and swap the slides on 'em and see what happens

Rember LEGALLY ARMED,,,you can put the Wolf springs in backwards. They is a wrong way and a right way to install them over the barrel.

Just a thought.

Nose Dive

Good, Fast, Cheap. Kindly pick two.

it would be pretty obvious if you put the spring in backwards. the tight side should be the one to slip over the barrel first.

anyway, i haven't got around to sanding the springs down yet. hopefully next weekend :D
