I need help/advise before I take on this job. If anyone has changed out their disconnector? I would love to hear from you! Thanks!

I've done it a time or two, but don't remember how I did it or what to tell you to do first. Don't have my pistol in front of me either. However, try this link http://p64resource.com/board/P64_%20Assembly_Manual.pdf and see if that will give you some guidance. You may have to remove the hammer and some other odds-n-ends to get the disco. out.

Alright, I took the disconnector out on my P-64. It's a rather easy process. I'm going to try to explain it the best I can.

Step:
1 - ensure magazine is removed, chamber is empty, establish pistol is safe to disassemble.
2 - remove slide
3 - remove grips
4 - cock hammer back, insert paperclip in little hole in the hammer strut bar right below the mag release
5 - decock hammer. this causes the hammer spring to remain under pressure
6 - remove hammer axis pin, remove hammer
7 - remove little screw on the left side of the frame by the hammer axis pin
8 - slowly draw the axis pin out that holds that little (pin thing with the spring around it) and remove this piece.
9 - remove disconnector from within this frame area and switch it out if need be.
10 - reverse directions to reinstall, you may want to use a set of needle nose pliers to get the little pin/spring piece back in place so you can reinsert it's axis pin. Other than that, it's all straight forward. Should take you around 5 to 10 minutes.

Made a video, I'll try to get a link here shortly for you to see how to remove the disconnector. Took me right at 2 minutes to get it out.

It took a little less than 2 minutes to take it apart, and about 3 to put it together. So, around 5 minutes, maybe a little longer. Take your time.

I can already tell that I'm going to need your help putting my pistol back together. Your video was great! I got my gun apart in 2 minutes, but I can tell I'm going to have issues with the spring sear.

Already ahead of you. See the vid to put it back together. Go ahead and practice with your broken disconnector.

I took the thing apart and put it back together probably 10 times in the making of those videos. Something wouldn't go right and I'd spend 10 seconds trying to get it in place which would seem dumb on a video. Or I'd be recording and doing a good job putting it together, but the camera wouldn't even be on the pistol which defeats the whole purpose of getting the video. I had to use a webcam clipped onto the neck of my shirt. I'm sure it would have been a sight to behold.

In the end, it was worth it.

Sandman, did you bugger it up by filing on it? Make it too short?

Yeah, I filed it too close to the rear of the disconnector. That was not allowing the trigger to reset. The part of the disconnector that I needed to file was the slanted side, closer to the chamber. The disconnector was too short. If you need to file it, just file the slanted side. At least I know now!

I stand by my first opinion regarding your issue; you should not be filing the disco, especially since you have no experience with fire control parts.

I got a little file crazy, I guess. I'm very experienced with fiream disassembly, but I did not think about how the disconnector reset the sear via the trigger bar. I just filed a little too much in the wrong area. Filing the front of the disconnector was the only possible solution to correct my issue. Lesson learned....

I used juniustaylor's awesome videos to make sure I removed and installed the disconnector properly. I had to file the new disconnerctor, as I thought. Everything functions as it should! Thanks juniustaylor for going above and beyond to help me and others! It's nice to have an answer other than "Did you clean your gun?" or "I would not do that if I were you." Thanks again.
