Upping the ante on a PPK/S?

I was wondering if my PPK/S would handle the 9X18 if I had the chamber reamed and upped the poundage on the recoil spring. Has anyone ever done this? My stainless PPK seems to be at least as beefy as most of the eastern block pistols I have seen.

I know...why?, I was just thinking of consolidating calibers and this seemed like an option instead of ditching the .380.

You would need a whole new bbl to go with your new springs. Just reaming the chamber would give you a kaboom because the dia. of a 9x18 Makarov bullet is greater than that of the .380ACP.

As lklawson said, you would need to find another barrel and I have not seem one in 9x18Mak for a PPK/S. As he stated, a .380 is around 0.356". A Mak bullet is around 0.363" or so. You're better off to just leave the Walther in its original form as a .380. As far as consolidating bullets, I don't think you'll be shooting it all the time, so buy a few boxes to stash away. I have so many random calibers and I either buy some extras to stash or keep reloading what I have.

BTW, welcome to the board!

you would have to change barrels, the closets barrel that would fit is for the PA-63 ,

http://www.gunpartscorp.com/ used to have a stainless steel barrels for the PA-63's a while back , the only spring you would probably have to change is the recoil spring, and then again you may not have to change it

Seems like it would be a whole lot easier to just buy a PA-63, it's a PPK/S clone already chambered ion 9x18.
