I noticed in the Photo's of all P.83 Pistol's the Hammer is alway's Back off the Firing Pin. I thought this was because the Safety was on. However I noticed when the Safety is off the Hammer stay's in the same location. Does the Hammer only go all the way to the Firing Pin when Fired? I just got my AIM 1989 made P.83 today, got a nice one. Paul

Dont know for sure on the P83 (don't have one) but it is a pretty common safety feature. P64, PM, most Sig pistols and many others have a rebounding hammer. It strikes the firing pin when fired and bounces back to a safety notch so that it isn't resting on the firing pin.

This Photo show's what I mean, I have not fired it yet, but I noticed the Hammer is in the Same Position with the Safety on or off.

Looks the same in every picture I can find of the gun. Pretty sure it has a rebounding hammer. You can test it without going to the range.
Clear the gun and put a pencil, eraser first, down the barrel resting against the breech face. Point it in a safe direction and pull the trigger. If the pencil jumps the hammer is striking the firing pin.

Hey Stover! Great Idea!!! I cleared the Pistol Stuck the Pencil in Eraser down, pointed to the Ceiling and Fired, The Pencil shot out of the Pistol and hit the Ceiling. I would never have though of that, nothing wrong with my Hammer or Firing Pin. Thank's Paul
