I think you can still shoot the gun. The little leg that broke off may allow it to wobble fore and aft since it won't be held in place by that cross pin. It should still cause the hammer to return to its forward position when you place the safety to SAFE. So, to the best of my knowledge, no harm should come from shooting it as is. However, I'd still be on the lookout for a replacement part. Try searching on Gunbroker.com frequently using the phrases "P-64" or "P64". You may find one on there if no one on here has a spare. Assembling the gun isn't too bad. Hopefully you paid attention how you took it apart. If you can't figure it out, go here - http://p64resource.com/board/P64_Assembly_Manual.pdf

I think I would silver solder it, finish it down , then retemper it, the part is over harden to brake like that with no stress on it ,did you just get the gun , if you did try and return it, most vendors will guaranty it for 30 days, unless stated not guarantied . as is

junius, that's good news, I had thought maybe it would still work but I had to question why the piece would be like that if it wasn't needed, so I was worried. Fixing it is still priority but at least it's probably still usable.

normsutton, nah I've had the gun about 2 months and plenty of range time on it.. I love it! would hate to return it anyway.

I wonder what caused the break..

Anyway that sounds like a good fix, I'll probably need to find someone who can do it though as I'm not experienced with silver solder or retempering.. In fact if anyone here can do a good job I'd be willing to pay to have it done, this really is my favorite pistol.. hate seeing it broken

I can do the job ,but it would better if you did it would be a lot cheaper, to have one fix it would be more expensive than if you could find the part, you could probably make one out of sheet metal , these parts in the P-64 were cast then milled, then harden, some were over harden and with age they get harder tell the metal becomes brittle, like some S&W hammers have been know to do (brake with age), any way the vibration in the gun I suppose broke that one , it also could be a bad casting , your gun probably never got fried much or not at all or just test fried ,that's the fist one I've seen do that though
