I bought really nice P64 today for $140. The only issue is the safety is very tight and hard to slide. It is hardest going to safe to fire, almost a 2 finger job. Any advice?

Wearing my tacticool gloves when using mine tends to help with the stiffy safety.

Try removing the slide and applying powdered graphite to the safety. You can find graphite @ Wal-Mart in the hardware section on the rack of key slugs where the key cutter machine is located.

clean out the cosmo.

Make sure it's really clean. Then shoot it. If it doesn't loosen up enough for you, you can take the safety apart and clean it/deburr it until it's smooth -- there are some threads around here on that. (Of course you could always do this before you shoot it but it's a bit a of a pain.)

On mine, the Safety Detent had that little spring catch nub on both ends. When me and the FFL first took it out of the box, it would take two hands to move the safety. Little work with some 400 grit took care of that and the safety is smooth now.

I'm one of those freaks that will work a new CCW gun until it's smooth. I've been known to sit in front of the TV flicking the safety on and off for hours.

Something that also also free's up parts is real oil of Wintergreen, I used to use it in the Navy. Great for frozen nuts,bolts, hardware. Sometimes a little jeweler's rouge will also smooth things out too.
