Is my pistol functioning properly?

The hammer doesn't seem to have any spring tension to hit the firing pin. When I squeeze the trigger and guide the hammer down with my thumb the spring tension stops at a half cocked position. If I keep the trigger pressed I can push the hammer forward into the pin with my thumb but if I release the trigger the hammer is locked from moving forward passed the half cock position. Engaging the the safety lowers the hammer to the same half cocked position not resting against the safety mechanism.
Is this correct? I swapped out the hammer spring pretty much first thing and with the troubles I had getting everything back together I'm not sure if I messed something else up in the process.

yes that's right , that's one of the safety features , on the gun

And yet surprisingly the gun goes bang when you fire it.

It does go bang. Went to the range today and it ran great. The 18 lb. hammer spring was unreliable with the wolf mc I had but spit out the hundred silver bear I ran through it just fine. I guess I'll give the 19 lb. spring a try.
After receiving the p64 I started to doubt the purchase, but having fired it now this thing is a fine little shooter!

I would keep the 18 pound hammer spring and ditch the wolf ammo.

you shouldn't be shooting wolf ammo in the guns in the first place there are NO PARTS FOR THESE GUNS,
its only to take one bad round of wolf ammo to make it a paper weight
