Common problem?

A question posted on another forum got me to thinking...
Is this wear at about the 10 o'clock area of the chamber normal?
I'm guessing steel cased ammo is the cause. When the shell is extracted and turns 90 deg. to eject, the lip on the casing drags slightly in this area?
Your opinions or theory is greatly appreciated.

That is a great photograph!
It would be interesting to cover that area heavily with wet thick indelible pencil or a thick slurry of jewelers rouge. Then roughen the lip of casing slightly and fire it to see what kind of mark is made and where the marking shows up?
My guess is that you are correct, but it would be a simple and interesting test.

I guess there are three of these threads that could possibly be merged. Here's a link to a post I put up in one of the other threads.

if the neck in it isn't as deep as the extractor cut I wouldn't worry about it , I would just smooth it or just take the sharp edges off
