I fired the P-64 today at the firing range. It jambed 8 times out of a box of 50 shells. Federal American Eagle shells. Four rounds jambed while feeding into the chamber and four times the slide didn't seat correctly and the gun wouldn't fire. The last shot the slide jambed while open and I can not find a way to correct it. Can't seem to get it to budge. Does anyone have any recommendations?
One positive, the gun continues to shoot a better group than any other semi auto I have used. It just seems a little unreliable. Perhaps it just needs a thousand rounds or so put through it to break it in.

That's odd. These guns are usually very reliable. There is most probably something specifically wrong with yours. Owners of Kel-Tec pistols sometimes refer to reliability preparation as doing a "Fluff & Buff". That's because although almost all the internal parts which come into contact with each other are thoroughly polished, it is done with 400 to 600 grit wet/dry sandpaper and virtually no metal is removed, at least not enough to significantly alter the dimensions of critical parts. The two links below will take you to a page about this procedure. Some parts of the process will not apply to a fixed barrel blow-back pistol like the P-64, but the general idea is the same.

One thing to consider is that unlike all other semi-autos of which I am familiar, the Makarov and the P-64 have two small projections at the bottom of the breach face to prevent a fresh cartridge from sliding up behind the extractor hook as is normal in other pistols. This means that the extractor hook must jump over the rim of the cartridge after it has been fully chambered. If there is dried cosmoline or what-have-you behind the extractor then it may not be able to move freely over the rim of the cartridge. IMHO, if you are using ball cartridges, a super smooth feed ramp is not really necessary. I notice that you have had jamming issues with your pistol before. We need to get your gun running like the rest of ours. Norm Sutton is certainly an expert on these pistols, and probably others as well.

I tried federal 9x18 american eagle ammo and gave up after one box. I have never tried it again due to my bad experience. It is 14/50 at the only local store that sells it, outdoor sportsman.

If your pistol is unissued and you have done thorough cleaning, try cleaning and lubing one more time with as much degreaser as possible or dip it if you do that sort of clean. It took a lot to get the cosmoline out of mine in areas like the safety, extractor, or even the mags. Do not get it on the grips like I did!

I use S&B or barnaul ammo almost exclusively in my P64. I am going to try Mesko. I have had 0 feeding issues with S&B as far as I can recollect.

My P64 jammed horribly when I tried RAM HP ammo, Wolf ammo, federal american eagle ammo, and some other HP ammo.

You can order S&B or barnaul ammo online if you are willing to fax your ID to the vendors. I recommend AIM for price and availability right now on barnaul.

J&G seems to have both of these. Pricier though.

No insult intended on the basic recommendations here, but you did use Federal 9x18 ammo and not 380 or 9mm ammo right? When I bought my 1st 9x18, I had unknowledgeable folks recommend both of those to me, but neither are compatible. You can only use 9x18.

Thanks for the info. As stated above, the problem is faulty ammo and the gun should be deep cleaned again.

Try removing the magazine, dropping the trigger guard and taking the slide off by pushing it back and up.

FRED called me SAT night one of the problems was he couldn't get mag out
so had him take the grips off then press on mag. release and at the same time pull the slide back in 2 or 3 seconds the mag pop-ed out then we pulled the trigger guard down pulled on the slide and the slide came off.

he was real happy we talk for about 30 more min.

I deep cleaned the pistol again, (more thoroughly this time). Norm, you were very helpful and it was a pleasure talking with you. I'm looking forward to trying it out at the range with different bullets.
