Well, it happened to me

My left grip panel shattered at the range today. It broke off in my hand at the first shot of the day. Now I have heard of this happening and that it is due to overtightening of the screw that holds the grips on, so I have been careful (so I thought) to not do that. But I am curious to know, if your grips have broken, did they do so like this?

It seems odd to me that it would fracture so far up; I would have thought that if it were overtightened that the extra force would be concentrated at the grip nut, and would cause a crack to form right at the screw hole. But maybe nothing is out of the ordinary here and I am looking for an explanation that I already have eh.

I broke a left thumbrest grip in the same place as yours.
It wasn't overtightened either.
It was a good excuse to get a flat panel replacement.

The left side thumbrest panel was not a military spec part. It was an aftermarket addition to gain points for import into USA. Grip screw is not to blame.

It definitely is a good excuse, I never liked that thumbrest anyways. It sat directly under the knuckle on my trigger finger (I'm a lefty).
