I was at a gun show yesterday and handled a Charter Arms .38. I think it was an ultra light. Anybody have experience with one of those?

I have a 3 inch 'Bulldog' in .44spl. I named it 'Thumper', for a good reason.

Thanks for the info. I think I'll get one. I was high bidder on one last night but it didn't meet the reserve price. I guess they didn't want to part with it after all.
Any idea where the best place to get one?

Norm, What would you gauge your SA trigger pull to be?? Mine is is very light, it's on par with my P-64 after changing to an 18lbs hammer spring. My Bulldog was someones truck gun, had light surface rust. Didn't pay much for it. Cleaned it up, steel wooled it and cold blued it. Not an outstanding job, but better than it was. Since I've got time on my hands, I'm going to re-do it. Mine has a 239 series serial no.

Just one word of caution on older charter arms and lightweights, also this applies to a lot of brands of revolvers ..I wouldnt reccomend use of +p ammo.. most manufacturers state their new stuff is safe for it they also caution not to use it extensively.

I have an Undercover .38 that I inherited years ago. It's one of the original Charters built in the mid-1960s with a low S/N, still looks good as new. The only work I've done on it was to install Pach grips. Nice lightweight carry gun. It gets shot now and then but as anjdrifter noted never with +p ammo.

Thanks Norm, anjdrifter, I'm using 200gr. 'Silvertips', as a defense load, but 246gr. PMC solids for plinking. 'Silvertips' are a little pricey to just practice with. Initially ran a couple of boxes of 'Tip' thru it whenI first got it, so I'd know what to expect/get used to it. There's a vender I know that reloads, I've bought lead solids from him. Took a little getting used to, the DA is maybe double what the SA pull is.

Norm, the dealers link for charter arms doesn't seem to be working for me. Maybe they don't have a dealer within a 100 miles of me. I see Bud's guns shop in Tennessee has a good buy on them. Just a little more than I wanted to spend right now.
Also, from what I read on the web, the Charter Arms of old and the Charter Arms of today are not connected.

I think Charter Arms has been sold 3 times, not sure, can't help you with prices or dealers

I agreed to gun shop with a lady from a CCW class I taught a few months ago. She is my wife's BFF and we all went to the local gun show. Seemed that every table had a full stock of Charter Arms Ultra-light .38s. The Gawd aweful pink one kept catching her eyes. They were in the mid to high $300 range, on par with the similar Taurus models (Model 85 I think). Maybe a hair cheaper.
She ended up buying a used S&W 442 from a good friend of mine for $325, but she sure liked those pink revolvers. Asked around on a few boards about the quality of the latest Charter Arm's revolvers. Opinions were generally favorable. Got the impression they are on par quality wise with Taurus too. I consider that a good thing.
I've owned a few Taurus revolvers, except for a cylinder release coming loose here and there, they were all pretty solid. Blue lock tite always fixed the issue too. Hopefully that gives you some idea to price on em.
