Hello everyone,

This is my first post. I don't actually own a P64, but I've been interested in getting one. I know someone that has one and has a broken part. I don't have pictures of the actual gun, but he said that one of the two metal protrusions at the chamber end that help to seat the round in the chamber the housing of the firing pin broke off (ejection side). Since then it's had a ton of FTE and other issues. Here's a picture showing specifically what broke off.


Now I don't have the whole story of how it happened, but I'm curious what options does he have to get this fixed.

My other question is how common is this kind of thing? I don't want to get a P64 if it's going to break something within a thousand rounds.

not common at all, he was probably shooting wolf ammo and had a pierced primmer

So a pierced primer could cause that little piece of metal to break off? Is that due to an out of spec firing pin or bad firing pin spring? Or is it mainly due to the ammo?

Don't shoot Wolf in a Pistole. Norm says not to shoot it in anything, I'll go along with not shooting it in a pistole. I have some that I will sell for, Hummmm, lets say 2 cents.

I have one that experienced the same failure. I have not had any FTE issues (by the way, I have never used Wolf ammunition). The two "tangs" essentially strip the next round from the magazine and push it into the chamber during cycling. The cartridge is guided by the magazine lips so one tang is adequate to accomplish the chambering process. Mine is working fine with just one tang.

Regarding the FTE, I would check for a weak extractor spring or damaged lip on the extractor itself. Also, you may want to check and make sure you don't have an incorrectly machined sear. Make sure that there is clearance between the top of the sear and the bottom of the slide (tangs). Interference here could definitely be a cause of the failure.

As far as a repair goes, I've been working on that and will post a thread if and when I've figured a way to do it!
