20# Wolff does NOT fit?

Just got my 20# Wolff recoil spring. Installed properly (tight side on barrel), mounted slide and pulled back far enough to push down. Will not lock down on to frame. Re-installed factory recoil, no problem mounting 2 frame. Tried again same thing. I have installed heavier springs on a PM before - no problem whatsoever. Any ideas????

That's normal. You will have to grind the end of the spring. You can find a discussion of fitting the Wolff spring somewhere on this board.

Grind the end of the spring? I've never heard such a thing! I bought a Wolff for a Bulgarian PM, Norinco 1911, CZ-82 and all fit perfectly. I don't have a machine shop to "grind springs". It didn't say anything on the Wollf site or with the instructions about grinding the spring.

I found the threads about Wolff recoil springs and added them to my post above.

you well not find it on their web site that the ends should be finish off , you are the second person that has had to do that, that I know of with the 20# recoil spring , most of the ones that had to finish off were the 22#,
we are very lucky that Wolff even bother to make springs for the P-64

Mine was very hard to get on the first time. It took a lot of patience (slide got stuck to the barrel was hard as heck to get off) and time and I was worried when I had to take the slide of the next but it works fine after you finally get it on. The original spring was like that the first time I cleaned it. You might try compressing several times with your fingers. I think there is a good chance with some patience you can get it on without grinding if you don't want to grind. Grinding is probably faster and less nerve racking. All guns are a little different.

Success! Took it to the local auto garage and borrowed the bench grinder. Shaved it down a little at a time without letting it over heat on the flat SIDE of the wheel so it looked like the factory flat ends. Slide pops on easily now. Wolff is sending the FP spring they forgot to include in the bag. The nice gentleman at Wolff was real responsive.
