Hello, I really like my 1975 p64. So much so that I have been using it for ccw duty. I was just wondering if you guys have noticed any trends in parts breakages. Any weak area in the design of this pistol that would compromise it's long term reliabilty? Is it as reliable as a pa-63 or even a Glock? Or will it just suddenly snap something at the worst posible time.

I am running a new 20lb recoil and 19lb hammer spring and it functions great so far. Thanks.

Nothing comes to mind but that doesn't mean that something can't break. I haven't had mine too long, about a year or more and I have never had a problem. Mine came to me looking new so for all intents and purposes thats the way I treat it. Its new. Carry it and shoot it and enjoy. I haven't had magazine problems for that matter. ;D

I like my P64 so much that I am going against my past preaching of only using a newly manufactured weapon for personal defense by carrying my P64! I don't know if anything made can't break down at one point or another, look at the billion dollar space program for example. My disconnector lever broke on my P64 after just a few shots and it was very difficult finding a replacment. But, thanks to help only found on this great forum I was able to replace it. The current one has 100 rounds through it with no problems whatsoever so Norm and I feel it was just a bad part to begin with. He has never known another to break!

So things can happen and parts do break; but, if you have a moderate amount of rounds through your P64 with no problems, have found a reliable round, and haven't beaten the gun to the point something's due to break, you should be fine in my opinion.

Not sure I would call it a trend but the trigger return spring on my "new" J&G Sales 1970 round hammer P64 snapped after firing seven rounds at the range. I installed one of Norm's replacement springs and have had no further problems with this neat little pistol. The double action trigger pull is quite good so unless something else breaks I'm not looking to replace any other parts.

I just took my P64 to the range for the third time today. I fire mine stock with no modifications to any springs. The accuracy is very good. Considering that I have not fired handguns in about 25 years, I was able to obtain all hits on the human silhouette in a nice pattern of 3 to 5 inches and all in the middle of the body area.
Not where I want to be yet, but getting there. And the DA trigger pull is much more manageable now. I think after one or two more outings, I will be able to get a nice steady pull with no hesitation.

I have 3 of these and use 90% of time as carry gun I have lost count of how many rounds have gone down the tubes without a problem but know it is in thousands ,wait did have a trigger guard pin loosen once and fixed that right at range and then at home with our Norms help.. so is it reliale you betcha...

I have not had one problem with my P64 period. Not a feeding problem, not an ejection problem, not one singe hiccup.

The only problem I have with the gun is that I don't get to shoot it as often as I would like.
