I am new to the P-64 world, but happy to be here. I just received my 1976 P-64 from J&G last Friday, I took it to the range and it was better than I expected, loved it even with the stock springs. The next day, I embarked upon a complete disassembly, clean, reassembly venture. I am happy to say that it only took me 12 hours, 3 Bandaids, 5 beers, a little Brownells Oxpho-Blue, half a can of WD-40, and a box of Q-tips and it looks fantastic.
Now, of course, I want a set of Dennis' grips. For those that are familiar with his grips, do you have any recommendations on wood and/or finish? I was leaning towards Walnut or Wattle, checkered, no thumb rest. Not sure about finish (oil, shellac, color (red) or natural)? Are the finger grooves comfortable? What about the thumb rest, does it tend to "get in the way".
Any recommendations you have would be very much appreciated.
