Azeri mass shooter 'killed for pleasure'

A man who shot 12 people dead at a university in Azerbaijan before killing himself left messages saying he would "experience the pleasure of killing", police and prosecutors say.

Farda Gadirov, 29, described himself as a "lone wolf", a joint statement from the general prosecutor's office and interior ministry said on Friday.

Investigators had found photographs and messages in which he had anticipated his shooting spree, it added.

"There is no love for me, only hate," wrote Gadirov in a message left on his mobile phone.

"I am coming to Baku, I will shoot everyone I meet regardless of their age. I will not give up to the police. I will experience the pleasure of killing," the message said.

Photographs found at the gunman's home in neighbouring Georgia showed him posing with a pistol. They were signed "Lone Wolf" and "My every step is death".

Investigators also found there a receipt dated from October listing the purchase of the Makarov pistol and ammunition from a gun shop in the Georgian capital, Tbilisi. This was the weapon and ammunition used in the shooting.

Police were investigating the gunman's links with Georgian citizen Sergei Grigorian, who was allegedly with Gadirov when he purchased the arms, the joint statement added.

Police say Gadirov, a Georgian citizen of Azerbaijani origin, walked up a flight of stairs at the Azerbaijan state oil academy on April 30 shooting anyone who crossed his path.

As well as killing 12 people, he wounded another 13 during his rampage, only killing himself after police had surrounded the building.

The massacre stunned this small, mainly Muslim ex-Soviet republic, which had never before seen the kind of public shooting rampages that have plagued some Western countries in recent years.

Two men with alleged connections to the gunman were detained in the days after the shooting.

I'm really debating about writing this. It is a real shame the man had to be such a coward as to kill all those unarmed people. But, I wonder what type of ammo was used? My son who's in the USMC was on a military training mission near Tbilisi for a year and a half. He liked the country and it's people. He said arms were available if you weren't picky. This animal most likely used military ball ammo, just goes to show it will still do the job it was intended for.
