My mag has been good with the 18lb spring but I was curious about the mechanics of why some would drop? The mag is secure in the well it can't put pressure on the catch.I tried to push the mag against the catch with pressure on the finger rest to no avail.Any education appreciated.

Thanks Norm but could you flesh out that reply a liitle more? I can't figure out the dynamics that forces that heel release back.I know the spring is used but it does not seem that weak.

This is my observation and I may be wrong but here goes. You have a weeker spring that affects the mag release. now I dont know if this is happing when you fire the gun but if it does its because the weeker spring is affected by the recoil.when the slide goes back there is just the right force to move the spring to drop the mag.Does that sound right Norm?Every gun is diff.so you might get away with a 17 spring.Or you might need an 18.You just have to shoot it to see whats going to happen.I have never heard of a mag drop with an 18.Has anyone had a mag drop with an 18?Id like to know. Thanks,Guys

right , the thing is i don't think anybody has got away with the 17 # spring , the 18 # is better , but you might get light primmer strikes if you uses steel ammo with the 18# , but depends on the gun

I would have to say that the force of the recoil over powers the spring. Each time a round is fired you have all that force vibrating every part in that gun. That force in some cases over powers the force that the spring is applying to the mag release lever that holds it in place. So the mag release lever having more force applied to it rearward compared to forward and Click the mag drops out.Don't forget that the springs are inside there vibrating. So that force could even strike the spring while it is at its weakest spot due to the previous vibration. So the correct answer is to use a stronger spring. That is the best I got for you. Sounds like what you have is working so stick with it. Mine is bone stock and I LIKE IT.
