EAA Witness 9mm

I recently picked up a used standard full size EAA Witness in 9mm [4.5"bbl] at my last show from a walk-in, I consider it in 98% condition. These of course are CZ clones by Tanfoglio of Italy, fit and feel is good for me, its all carbon steel so its a tad heavy [33oz], but I like all steel guns and the weight doesn't bother me in the least. It came with 2 original 15rd mags, no box or papers, $325 OTD, I wasn't looking to buy another 9mm but if its as accurate as my CZ P01 9mm then it might be a keeper. The weather here is cold and windy with no relief in sight so it might be a while before I can get it to the range, I'm getting backed up on getting to shoot some of my newest acquisitions, including my L1A1, S&W M17-4 and now the EAA Witness.

I do like the slide in frame design [same as the CZ's] with the larger beavertail to eliminate hammer & slide bite and I really like the 1911 style safety [frame mounted] so it can be carried 15+1 in SA cocked & locked or in DA with hammer down for first shot capability. Break down is pretty much the same a SA 1911 but without the barrel bushing. Range report when weather allows.

very nice papabear I likey! ;) 8-)

I'm a honk for CZ and it's clones, I need to get another as I only have one modern handgun.

would love a p-01 or sp-01 but the price is too high for my present budget. Was looking at getting a cz82 but might just get another 75b type compact when $$$$ is available.

big54r,

Thanks for your comment, I too like the CZ's, I have the P-01, bought it used at my local dealer back in May '07 for $350 OTD, excellent little pistol, and for me very accurate and easy to handle, it just plain feels good in my hand.

The CZ 75 / 85 series are excellent handguns. Most of the clones are as well.
I have an EAA Witness full size in 40 S&W. I've had it about 7 years. I bought it with the intention of obtaining an aftermarket barrel in 357 Sig. It's just a barrel change to swap between 40 S&W and 357 Sig.
The factory 40 S&W barrel was a disappointment in regards to accuracy with jacketed and cast bullets. I obtained a complete 9mm top end to make it more versatile. The 9mm set up was lacking accuracy as well. Then came the Barsto 357 Sig barrel.
With the Barsto barrel the thing shoots great. I couldn't ask for more.
The rest of the gun is fine. The ergonomics are excellent. It feeds, fires and ejects without fail.
About 3 years ago I purchased a polymer framed compact Witness in 9mm. at a gun show. The function was fine but it wouldn't hit a thing. It went away the next show.
On the other hand, my friend has a full size Witness in 45 ACP and it shoots great. No complaints.
I've shot a few CZ-75s and they have all shot beautifully. If I bought another (I want to buy another) it would be a CZ.
The whole CZ-75 design is hard to beat. Henceforth all the clones.
They are definitely worth looking at.
