New P64 owner. Got very enamored with them and had to have one. I immediately ordered Lee 365-95-1R mold, dies and starline brass and have cast up a few hundred so far, all tumbled lubed with LLA. I have a custom push through sizer and M die expander plug being made but the 'as cast' bullets are doing just fine ahead of 3.3 grains of W231. Man is this thing a great shooter! Had to spread out a bigger tarp, further away, to keep from losing brass. I have never seen anything throw brass so far. Really quick and easy cleanup too. I don't mind the stiff double action pull and the single action pull is superb.

Hello

My name is Hutch. I am retired now and just chilling out doing what I want so to speak. I used be an avid hunter but I have came out of the fields.
Not like it was in the old days! I still enjoy the outdoors adventures. just pick up my P 64 looking to do some traget shooting. I will probably carry this as my concealed carry. Any thoughts. I want to use the Hornaday defense rounds.

Good to be here Glad I found this site!

Welcome to The Brotherhood Hutch.
1st suggestion is to swap out your springs. Even if you only replace with stock weights do it. Weak / bad springs seem to be a common malady for these old workhorses.
And Hornady is my reccomendation for carry.

Hello Ketchman,

Thanks for the reply. I have switched out the springs, 18 #trigger and 20# recoil. I plant shoot the Hornady ammo.

Hi Folks,
Just joined the site. There is clearly a wealth of information and expertise here! I stumbled onto the site last week while searching for information on a 1968 P-64 which I had purchased about a week earlier. I used many great tips to do a detailed cleaning of the pistol and remove the
Cosmoline. The pistol seemed unfired to me and in excellent condition. I took it to the range for the first time this past weekend and fired 1 1/2 boxes of Fiochhi. The pistol performed flawlessly and I was absolutely blown away by its accuracy! The trigger pull is very pleasant on SA (4.5#) but on DA it is challenging (varies between 18-20#). I ordered a new hammer spring from Wolff but may keep it orginal for the time being to see if more use will lower that DA weight.

Happy holidays to everyone!
