Got thinking about grayfox's birthday today and some of the good times I have had in Florida over the years, going back to the 60's when I was stationed at MacDill in Tampa in the mid - late 60's. then going back over the years and now for nearly the last 7 years since I've been retired, and my wife's brother lives in Fl, I get to go there often. I pulled out some of my old milsurps and one my favorites is this 1941 VKT Finn captured MN 91/30 with a original Finn WWII sling, some call it a bolt action M1 Garand, its a excellent shooting 7.62x56r rifle that the Finn's rebarreled and restocked, just used the MN receivers and bolts. Its has a adjustable 8.5 front sight, you can get different height front sights for the Finn MN. It is a true joy to shoot, I'll have to get it to the range soon and pop some targets.

That wood is just downright purty. What is it? Are the Finns parkerized?

Volfandan,
The WWII war time stocks had the rounded fingers as splices/joiners of the two piece stock, they were made that way to lessen the stress to the stock which IMO was not the best wood for a military stock, the M39's are generally made from Birch, which in strength would compare to the Coachwood from Australia, both woods common and indigenous to their own area's but both are also not hard woods which generally are not the best accuracy, however, once I got use to this M39, it is fairly accurate for me at 50 yards.
NOTE: Here are the three different splices the Finn used to join the two piece stock. The splice on the stock is just under the front of the rear sight and about 2" in front of the hand grip on the stock.
