I just purchased the P-64 and I have a question about the slide locking mechanism. I am use to a firearm with a slide release and this "PPK" design sans release button bothers me a little. I would like NOT to have to remove the magazine to bring the slide forward. After disassembling using the instructions from the manual I found there is a small notch that is pushed up when the magazine is inserted, which I assume is what locks the slide back into place. Would it be safe to file this down or am I totally off track here? Would appreciate if anyone has thought of this before and what problems or issues might arise.

If you remove the notch, you will disable the slide lock.
Removing the entire slide lock would do the same thing without filing (damaging) the part.
Either way you will have no slide lock at all. The slide will close on an empty magazine rather than staying open after the last shot.
To remove the slide lock, remove the slide. The slide lock can then easily be removed after compressing the wire spring and pulling the lock away from the frame. Do this in a bag or box so you don't lose the spring.
You can always reinstall it if you don't like the lack of a slide stop.

Greetings, No you cannot file the button that holds the slide in. That is one of those things that was built into the firearm and works well. I do agree with you that the mag release is not as easy to use as a button on the side. But, stick with it and you will grow to love the little gun. So, welcome to the forum makdc I hope you enjoy yourself and I know that you will like the rest of the guys!! I think that if you file that little button down( if its the one I think you are thiking of ) that your slide may pass the slide stop and lock the slide up. Norm will tell you for sute.

that part that you want to file off also works as an ejector so don't shoot it with out the slide stop in place

Ah yes the ejector! Thank you very much, everyone, for the responses. I'll just play around with it and get use to it. It's a little frustrating but that's the way it goes. I haven't been out to the range with it yet but can't wait to give it a try. Thanks again!
