Heading a little north

Well it's time again for the summer vacation to the northern retreat. But we will attempt to recapture the "Water Bottle Hill" again, like last year. I'll try doing a little video capture this year and see how that goes.

I also will try to get a little project I've been working on since July 8th or so. It's a bit of a long story, but I'll try to shorten it as best I can. Back in July of 07 I picked up a parts frame of a P64 from beasleydano. Then about a month later a slide came available so I figured I may as well stock up on some parts because that was before TN was selling any. At the time I tried to get ahold of the member who got the slide from him, but never got a response, so I just kind of figured it was a lost cause to try to match the serial #'s again.

So as you probably know by now, I usually like to pm, e-mail, or start a thread to wish some people I recognize Happy Birthday. Well Dane's was listed on the home page at the 64 forum and it kind of rang a bell, so I looked up his profile, http://p64.proboards67.com/index.cgi?ac ... &user=dane ,
and noticed he was the one who had gotten the slide of the gun that matched my frame. I noticed he hadn't logged in in a long time, and still hasn't. I really need to e-mail him again about that. But that's another story. Any way we both decided it would be great to reunite these mismatched pistols with their original parts again, so that project I've mentioned about in the past regarding making time to get that parts gun back together was delayed more. Instead I put the 74 slide back together as a 74 with the proper length firing pin, as I had bought a 72 for the frame I had also. The original reason the slide was purchased was because the safety had cracked and none were to be found. I searched hi and low and finally talked with Bill at TN and he set me up with the safety barrel and a bunch of other goodies. Well to make a long story shorter, after I dry function tested and live fire tested the slide on my carry 1974 P-64, I shipped it down to Dane and he shipped my matching slide to me.

I still have to install the loaded chamber indicator kit into the one he sent me, but I've already got those parts too. So hopefully I'll get some quality time with my kids, whoever is interested in the manly art of P-64 resurrection anyhow, probably just Chet, and get this 1972 round hammer back together and then I'll have a little older brother to join in the carry ranks for the non-winter months.

Hope your eyes aren't as tired as my hands are from typing all of this but, tough if they are :P, go find your bifocals if you can remember where ya left them. Yeah, you with them on top of your head, bring them down to your nose, there isn't that better now, LOL!
We'll see ya soon, and when I get back I'll share a little story about Bartos and his new bike.

Well we found some free wi-fi at the campgrounds up here, so we're just checking in and surfing around. We'll let you know if we get control of Water Bottle Hill again! See ya soon.

My oldest daughter and son helped recapture the HILL yesterday. Only one shot was fired from a P64, but it was an interesting ballistic shot. More pics, and possibly a video to follow, hopefully next week. Shot all the Maks, P6 and 226, Browning Hi-Power, and the Ruger 22/45. I'll update soon, as we're returning for home sometime tomorrow.

Here are a couple of pics of the expansion of a 90 grain Stars & Stripes built Gold Dot that I use for carry in my 1974 P-64.

The left is the headstamp.

Left middle is rear wall of the first of two 6" wide water jugs, the expanded bullet had gone to full expansion in the first 6 inches of water, entered into the next jug taking this piece into the second jug and denting the rear wall of the second jug, but didn't exit the second jug.

Right middle is the front side of expanded Gold Dot.

Right is pic of a non-expanded Gold Dot.

Second pic the only difference is the right middle is rear side of expanded Gold Dot.

:o
I miked out the non-expanded round at 0.363, and the expanded one at the largest point across was 0.572.
I realize this is only a benchmark of what this will do to a couple of water jugs at 7 yards from a P-64, but I would not want to be on the receiving end of this pistol, no way, no how, and I don't care what you've got loaded in the mag.
;)
I'm still working on getting some video and stills pulled from this years and last years tapes of the capture of "Water Bottle Hill".
It's been pretty busy at the homestead with school starting and projects that need to get done before the snow flies, but I'll do my best to be prompt. Yeah right, like that'll happen, :P! It'll happen when it happens, who am I trying to kid! LOL!
