CZ-52 from SOG and a BBQ

I received my first CZ-52 yesterday. $158.75 total door to door from SOG. One mag, no accessories, but for the price I paid for a gun in this condition I'll buy an extra mag.

This looks like a brand new gun. No scratches, blemishes, or wear of any kind. It is a 1954 and looks like it was made last week!

I am going to keep the original grips but I am looking for a good source for a stainless steel firing pin. I may change out the recoil spring with a Wolff spring as well.

I cleaned it up with Gunk Engine Bright and baked for one hour on the Weber. The cosmoline ran right out. Cleaned, oiled, and ready to go. My local gun shop is closed this weekend so I will have to wait to pickup some ammo until next week.

Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated. I know about the decocker and don't plan on using it.

when I bought mine I didn't have my C&R yet , and it was a month before I had any ammo and I bought reloadable ammo didn't know it throws brass into the next state so now I'm going to buy surplus stuff

Hey Norm,

I'll shoot surplus as well. I shoot a lot of it in 9x18, 7.62x54r, and 7.62x39. I just keep my dollar store ammonia based glass cleaner handy to clean up the residue.

I tried that link but there is no place to click on to order. I'll email or call them next week.

This gun is built like a Russian tank! I can't wait to shoot it!

They are on GB too. I'll call them on Monday and see if the price is the same. Have you changed the recoil spring or had any problems with the rollers, etc?

Again, mine looks brand new so I don't need to mess with anything except the firing pin for obvious reasons, but with Makarov.com on the way out I want to make up a small armorers kit to have some spares on hand for later.

I have a 54 as well, it had been re-arsenald in 1977. Mine looks like it has a new barrel in it. I haven't had any roller problems but it's been said that you might. So, if I was stocking up on parts I would get some rollers and a firing pin also. I still have the original, don't dry fire it and it will last a long time, the sucker is real brittle and breaks easily without a primer to hit. I bought a set of the wood grips from Makarov.com and you would be surprised how much better that makes a CZ 52 look. It goes from looking like a 1950's ray gun to actually looking like a nice handgun. I bought the Brazilian Cherry Checkered handgrips. Looks awesome. Enjoy your new toy.

Here is a good ammo source.
This is my CZ-52 with added grips. I also replaced the firing pin. Awesome shooter.

May I suggest you fire it at a local range at dusk, and you will see why I call it my the fire breather, you will draw a crowd at times. any way a picture of mine with Dennis grips. , I keep a spare firing pin but havent needed it yet and also always use snap caps.

I like the look of my 1950's Ray Gun

Is there a source anymore for a 9mm barrel now that Makarov.com is going away? They have little of anything left.

I thought Sportsmans Guide had them. Its beem awhile. They come without rollers so you will need a set for the 9mm barrel. I don't know first hand, but Ive read that the 9X19 doesn't feed well into battery from the magazine. Ive read some have problems, others don't. I never got one of the barrels because I have plenty of 9mm types to play with, still be fun to have one.

I think the gray parkerized finish is the original Czechoslovakian military finish. The black finish represents the reworked guns sold to American importers.

I have heard about the feeding problems with this barrrel configuration and I am planning on staying with the original Tokarev ammo and not messing with the gun except for the pin and perhaps a Wolff recoil spring.

You are correct from what I understand. The grey park was the original and the blued ones were after being re-arsenaled at some point, but I am no expert on when and where.

Mine is the original grey and will stay that way. I like the look of the original grips and until they chip or crack they will stay put too.

I have not had the time to hit the local gun shop for some ammo but I will try to get there this week.

Your going to have a lot of fun shooting your new CZ52, and Norm is right, they do throw brass into the next state. I love my two fire breathing dragons, they get a lot of attention at the range, especially at dusk.
