I recently picked up a new to me Ballester Molina .45acp, according to the SN its a 1953, got it from a private dealer with one mag for $250. Haven't have a chance yet to get to the range but as soon as I do I'll post a range report. Trying to keep up with the Sutton's [Norm]is a tall order so I'll have to get a set of "Grip Guys" Bocote grips to go with it, also need a few more 7rd mags for it, but fortunately all the 1911 mags fit it so no big deal finding a few.

WOW! I was just typing on another forum about a Ballester Mollina I saw at a gunshop this afternoon...$450...and no where near the great condition yours appears to be in!!!

Yelp it was, and it was from a old friend [47 yrs], so that is why I got it at that price, that is what he had in it.

If you want some fairly inexpensive ammo to use in that jewel, you'll find some Fiocchi at http://www.ableammo.com at $280/k.

Thanks of the head up on Able's .45acp ammo, at 28 cents a round for Fiocchi that's a excellent price in today's market, I'll have to give it a try.

Got my new grips from Grip Guys today, and of course I had to show em off. They are a little thicker and they give me a better grip and feel for this .45. Once again I chose the Bocote grips that I think really class up this Ballester Molina. Now I gotta get her to the range.

something I find funny. my friend and gun dealer likes to refer to the Ballester Molinas as

"Ballerina Molesters"

he said he slipped up once and said that to an old lady who brought one in to get it worked on.

Papabear, Oh MY ! That is shaaaaarp! Those grips really stand out! I have only seen lighter grained versions til now. They are special! That will fit great with the rest ! G

Pardon my Ballester Molina ignorance but is it a 1911 clone sans the grip safety?

Yes it is, its a clone of the Colt 1911A1 minus the grip safety. Its my understanding that the barrel, sights, and magazines are interchangeable, but the rest of the parts are not, but I am pretty sure some or most of the other parts even though maybe not drop ins can be altered to fit, however, I plan to leave it as is as I do with most of my handguns with the exception of grips usually.

"After the end of the of the British Contract for WWII, HAFDASA continued to produce pistols for Argentine government and commercial usage until 1953. Starting in 1947, the HAFDASA pistols had been supplanted in Argentine use by the DGFM Sistema Colt M1927 pistol, a clone of the M1911A1. While the HAFDASA pistols began to be withdrawn from Argentine service in the 1960's, many served until the mid-1980's when they were finally replaced and sold as surplus on the US market. It is believed that HAFDASA produced between 80,000 and 90,000 .45 caliber pistols."
