Anyone have much to say about these rifles? I have a friend who has one, and states they are worth the thousand dollar asking price. Be interested in hearing more from others about it.
Thanks, y'all!

If you like the gun, get it. I'm not going to burst anyones bubble. However, for $1000 you can get A LOT more in .308.
CDNN sells JLD PTR-91 (H&K-91 or G3 copy) for $900
Entreprise Arms sells their standard FAL for $900.
It would be really hard to find an M1A for under $1200, BUT you may find a DPMS AR-10 for $1000 or less.
Just MHO, but I'd rather have any of these that I have mentioned other than a vepr. Now a dragunov in 7.62x54 or .308.....that's a different story! :-*

Haven't heard anything, but $500 is darn tempting! I know that everything that I've heard about ANY Saiga (be it shotgun, .223, 7.62x39) has been positive. They are made in Russia, and seem to be very well made.

The Saigas are supposed to be quite nice for the money, although 20-round .308 mags are upwards of $50 on gunbroker. That's not necessarily a bad thing though, since with ammo prices being what they are I wouldn't want to shoot 20 rounds of .308 at a time anyway
The VEPRs are from what I understand one of the most accurate AK-pattern rifles around, and especially in .308. There's one on gunbroker right now for $750 with poly furniture/pistol grip, and another with wooden thumbhole stock and wood forearm for $1000, so if I were in the market I'd offer around $850 but it's your money

I do not care for the M16 style rifles, just not my thing (I'm a Ford man, too). The HK/G3 leaves me cold, too (don't like blondes, either). The FAL is doing ok, but I would prefer wood furniture. A Springfield would be great, however I don't have the ~$1450 being asked for the M-1A SOCOM II Scout that I really really like. What I have read about the Vepr is that it is based on the heavy machine gun reciever rather than the AK receiver.
I am also a big fan of bullpup rifles, so when I saw Kel-Tec's new rifle offering,
http://www.kel-tec-cnc.com/images/downl ... 07_web.pdf , I got real excited. Would sure like to hold one of these, and know the actual price, before I buy a Vepr.

I think I read somewhere that the manufacturer's recommended service life (not the actual phrasing but I can't think of it right now) on one of those Kel-Tecs is like 3k-6k rounds, which is absurdly short for a modern firearm. I'm sure they lowball it to be on the safe side, but even 10k is very short. I guess I'm just not much of a fan of a polymer-framed .308.
