After much debate....I finally broke and bought it

Well,
A buddy of mine bought a gun new back in maybe 2000. He had problems with it, had all the springs replaced, and it still didn't run right. So, he just put it in the back of his safe.
It's one of the H&K clones made by Special Weapons. He ended up buying a real HK-94, and just stuck this one in the back of the safe. They sold back then for about $1200 to $1300. I asked if he'd sell it, and he sold it to me for a steal.
I emailed the owner of Special Weapons, and he said that it was most likely an extractor issue causing the jams. Evidently, they were using POF manufactured extractors in the early guns. He said that they found out later that the POF's were POS.....and that a new H&K extractor should solve any issues with jams.
So, here she is! Cool, eh?
I had to go pick up a truckload of hardwood floor today.....my next "honey do" for spring. So, sorry about the photo. It's just sitting on a box of Asian Beech.
The only thing that I'm thinking about doing to it is putting on one of the Choate folding stocks. They only run about $125.....as opposed to the retractable, which are definitley better....but are also about $350 to $450 :'(

Too Cool! Can't wait for a range report when you play with the extractor! :-/

volvandan,
"Supper Cool" glad you finally got it, and when you get her going let us hear all about it. I know you are happy, sometimes we stew and stew, but when we finally take the leap, its a great feeling, happy for you my friend.

You really like it? It says cherry....but i think it's more of a mahogany finish. Oh, the gun! Yeah, thanks man. I love it. Just hope to get her running like a clock. I got it for so cheap, that I'll be able to dish out some $$ to the gunsmith.

Man that looks great. Just me but the stock looks too good to change. Shoot it first before you change it. I changed a stock on an AK to a side folder & wish I had the wood back. But whatever you do, you got the deal ;D

Well, to my wife's frustration.....I'll definitely shoot this thing before that floor gets laid. Probably take a vacation in May to lay floor.
Anyway,
I went to see my gunsmith yesterday, and I am very pleased so far. The owner of Special Weapons and I have been corresponding via email, and he is going to send me a brand new extractor and spring. My gunsmith said that the extractor is no big deal, and it looks like I could pop it out myself and replace it with just a pic. HOWEVER, my smith also said that just by eyeballing it....the ejector may need to be adjusted to properly grab brass rim. So, he's going to charge me $30 (min shop charge) to replace (my FREE) extractor and tweak the ejector.
If this solves the problem, great. However, if it doesn't fix it....the owner of SW said that I could send it in for "warrantied" repair! WIN / WIN situation.
I started really drilling my gunsmith on questions of changes! He said that if I want to register it as a SBR, then he will charge only $40 to lathe off and crown the muzzle! Or, for $50 online....I can order a 3-lug threaded adapter. He can then lop off my barrel, thread it, screw on the 3-lug adapter, and it'll be just like the MP-5! (but still semi-auto of course) That way, if I ever splurge, I can put a "quiet can" on the end!
Oh the endless possibilities!

Sounds like you got a deal of a lifetime. If you SBR, its only a 200.00 tax, (plus the wait). I didn't want to wait so I had a fake cover put on my Mac10 (MPA45).

Can't wait for a range report.

Very cool! I can't wait to see what happens IF YOU EVER SHOOT THE DARN THING!!
But seriously, if you register it SBR aren't you defeating the whole purpose of buying it "cheap" from you friend? Added cost of materials, smithing fee, government tax and then the quiet can later...this inexpensive toy could end up being very expensive! Don't mean to sound like a party pooper but just thinking out loud... :'(

carguy,
I know what you mean, but I just have to do a few things to this bad boy. It is going to cost, but I got SUCH a good deal on it that I can basically SBR it ($200), have the 3-lug adapter installed and barrel shortened/crowned ($110), and I'll still be HUNDREDS UNDER what the gun costs new or would even sell used for in fair market.
The "quite can" can come later.....at any time.

Vol,
One good thing about Tn is the SBR form is easy to get approved & the turn-a-round time is about 30 or so days.
Good luck ;D

Gray,
That's what I've heard, and I'm thankful. Seems that some states that allow are still more of a pain to deal with. Gotta love good ol TN! Don't plan on moving to California anytime in the next 80 or 90 years....so i should be A-OK. :-/
