I was wondering what others have done, or not done, to their Mosin Nagant stocks.
I have an M44 and an M38.
I refinished the M44 stock and left the M38 refurbished sloppy schellac.
These come up really nice, but the "original" is gone once you refinish it.
I just picked up a laminate M44 stock in shellac, but I think it would look much better if I refinished it. I just don't know if I want to mess with it.
Any thoughts?
Thanks, fritzhund

if it were mine, I would not refinish a laminate M44 stock, as they are less common and worth more than a normal stock, especially in original condition. I have a M91/30 that has black paint on the stock and barrel that I plan to refinish "someday" but my M44 is nice enough that I'm going to leave it.

I put an M44 stock on my 91/30 action/barrel and it looks very good to me. I am currently considering what "Paint job" I am going to put on it. My M44 stock was cracked near the tang area and I did a solid repair but I still have yet to refinish it. I made some drawings of it in this configuration with several different paint schemes(too much time on my hands). The longer barrel makes it look like a sporter in a way ,Methinks . Out of all of my "drawings", I like the Olive Drab Green one with the yellow (or white) lettering of "91/30-44" and the cheek pad best. Like I said, " Too much time on my hands." I am now wanting to get several more of them(91/30 AND M44's) and paint them all up ! HAHAHA Some call it EVIL, I'll call it inexpensive fun. I want to practice engraving and checkering on them also. OH Yeah ~ AND SHOOT THEM ALOT !!! I will keep the good ones in Military configuration for sure tho! as many as i can get !!! These are a great gun to introduce folks into .30 caliber rifles. I Love Surplus!
Happy shooting. G

i guess you will have to zoom in quite a bit. The actual size is 4 rifles per screen and each gun should be about 8"-9" long. There is quite a bit of detail and some have subtle changes barely noticable. Others stand alone. Here is a close-up of my Favorite. G

Garry-
Have you actually installed the 91/30 action in the 44 stock, and it fits? That is too cool!
How does it affect accuracy?

Yes Thats what I did and I really like the length. The rear handguard ring does not line up , but i am going to remedy that as soon as i get another one to practice and drill on before painting it green. It is shootable as is just fine but I haven't been out with it yet. I need to order another stock for the M44 now LOL. Or I could order a barreled action and swap stuff on them. They are inexpensive enough and If i find a nice specimen, I will leave it intact.

as for accuracy ~ if anything, I would think it would be about the same or better perhaps. I will find out and re-configure if necessary. or just leave it and buy another. As soon as I shoot it again i will post. I really do like the looks of it like this. it looks mean. sorry for the crappy pics, it is dark tonight.
