Attended a gunshow today, searched for and bought several items (desantis pocket holster for my Beretta 950, speed strips for my 38 spl...blah, blah, blah). Then I found something I've heard nothing but good things about for years and decided (with my son's encouragement, once again) to take the leap...don't let my wife know :'(

I found a Star BM in Starvel (stainless)!!! These are few and far between in Massachusetts. I saw a blued, beater a month ago at the show I bought the Colt 1903 at and passed.

This is in great shape, a little wear on the finish (my dream is to have a blued version like Papabear's and Norm's, but this will certainly do). A couple of nicks where the finish has been chipped (trigger, couple of sharp edges on the slide).

Now to find some nice wood grips, a Red Storm holster and another magazine!!!

I can't wait to get tot he range tomorrow afternoon!!!!!! ;D

Wow, lovin' that Starvel. It's a kind of nickle plate, right?

Here's my Little Star. It's a military issue piece, Gunkoted. The top is satin black, the bottom titanium. The gunsmith also used a rotary tool to make "dots" on the sights, and painted them white. The grips are from E-Bay (I think the Gun Grip Guys) in Bubinga rosewood.

slackone,
The "Starvel" finish used by Star is an electroless nickel plating.
Many people confuse this with stainless as I see people at gun shows all the time trying to sell their "stainless" Stars.
An honest mistake I'm assuming.

carguy,
Nice handgun you picked up there. I have a couple of Stars. A model 30 and a M43 Firestar. The model 30 is well built and reliable.
My M43 has a bit of a story behind it. It was given to Stella Stevens as a prize at one of the Charlton Heston Shoots back in the early 90's. I bought it from her and it remains unfired.

We have a MOVIE STAR STAR!! :D I love it!!!

I couldn't get to the range today as planned so later this week. I do like it alot, love the Starvel look especially for carry, less likely to wear the finish. I do just plain love the look of a deep dark blued finish! But this will do for now!

I am searching for grips (ebay, gunbroker etc) I know it needs a little darker stain because of the bright nickle finish...I had light colored grips on my 1911 that Dennis Marchal had sent me and didn't like them...looked great on a blued or parkerized pistol.

So the search is on... 8-)

Can the BM be carried cocked and locked like a 1911?
