We've done revolver, semi-auto pistol, shotgun...it just makes sense.

I have a 1925 Izzy Mosin Nagant that I truly love. I'm thinking of geting one of those sight mounted scopes to play with too.
Image

I'm actually thinking about something else but I just don't have a clue where to start...Enfield, Mauser, MAB or MAS?, K-31...?

Cost of the rifle is secondary with availability and cost of the ammo as primary! I really liked a French MAB(?) MAS(?) I'm not sure what it was I saw a few weeks ago. Inexpensive, cool looking but I understand expensive and problems with availability of ammo??

Pictures and opinions are needed...ready set go!

carguy,

Try this site for info on the French Mas 36, and 49/56, most you find usually have neer been fired and only droped once......... ;D The French 7.5 ammo is not that hard to find that I know of.

Thanks

I just think that is a pretty neat looking rifle. I really haven't researched the values at all but I just sort of like it, ya know?

There are so many different cool rifles out there. I saw a repro of a sharps with the tall sight behind the hammer...Quigley Down Under-ish!! Really cool :-/

carguy,

I had a French MAS 36, it was fun to shoot, this was a couple years ago, it looked almost new, the bayonet is inside the stock, you just unscrew and pull it out and screw it back on, it looks like a big long ice pick. They are still fairly cheap, under $200 that last one I saw at a show, AIM has the French 7.5 x54.

It would have to be my Mosin Nagant M44 (on the left).

After I got a couple of SKS's I didn't think I really wanted a Mosin but finally got one. Boy was I wrong. Still like the SKS's but the M44 is my favorite.

I actually have two favorites and I can't decide which I like the best. They are a German K98k and a 1934 03 Springfield. Both are accurate, both feel good, but I have to give an edge to the Springfield for better sight in target shooting. The K98k wins in the sight catagory for better battle sights. For semi autos, I love my preban M1A......what a dream to shoot!

Okay abwehr don't get ahead of yourself here...I didn't specify but semi-auto may be it's own thread of...
...Name Your Favorite!

:D

I haven't even considered the American rifles, 03 Springfield, Garrand, M1 Carbine for some reason I just thought they would be way to expensive or like the 03s would be difficult to get a shooter as opposed to a collectable one. Is a Krag a US rifle?

Pictures...threads are valueless without pictures!! :'(

I have recently acquired a fully restored and sporterized Swiss K-31. The stocks on these rifles are sometimes in poor condition because soldiers would throw them in the snow while they ate sausages. Also, under the butt-plate is an info sheet with the soldier's name, rank, and date of birth. Very accurate and very fun straight-bolt action. Big Five Sports has these on sale for around $140 quite often.

Well crap, here we go again, just one favorite........Ok, well one of my favorite bolt action rifles is my British #5 Jungle Carbine in 303, the baby butt smooth bolt action and accuracy and one heck of a kick, I'll go with the #5 Jungle Carbine, plus it comes with a rubber butt stock pad and for a old duff I can shoot it all day. I have to go along with abwehr about the 03's, and the K98's they are two accurate and fine shooting rifles, but I don't want to get in trouble here with carguy who started this thread.......... :o

well, it's probably my Weatherby MKV stainless 340WBY mag that I put in a high gloss MKV walnut stock....but I haven't got a scope on her as of yet. So, probably the Remington 1903 my Papaw gave me....or maybe the Remington 700BDL 22-250 with factory bull barrel and Burris 6.5X20X50 AO. I know which one the groundhogs DISLIKE.

As many of us are shooters and collectors, it is very hard to come up with a "favorite" rifle. When I buy a MilSurp that I have never owned before, it becomes my favorite for a while until the "new" wears off and I am back to the Springfield or the K98k.

"commandercob" mentioned the Swiss K-31 and from all acounts I have heard they are a sweet shooting rifle. I had some Swiss straight pulls years ago when finding ammo was almost impossible so I never got to fire one. About 5 years ago I bought a really nice 1943 with walnut stock that was near mint (only a few dings in the stock). The tag was still present under the buttplate, but never tried to locate the owner. I have fired it one time and all I can say is NICE!
