Norm is that bottom SKS one with the side mounted dovetail? I have one and have been looking for that slide on scope mount for years. Should have bought one when I got the SKS back in the 80's. They were only $35 then with the 4x scope. I have seen them for about $200. Way too much for me.

Choate is the drill and tap mount. I have thought about that also. That link looks like a Mosin scope.

Papabear,
That is a very impressive collection of rifles. Looks like you have a gun museum in the making. If the cheese ever hits the fan you could arm have your neighborhood.

Papabear, I have some property near Beattyville and always thought if SHTF I would go there. I think I may need to go further west and hook up with you. :o

Nice collection. ;D ;D

I have been thinking about getting a Mosin as the Chinese SKS is all I have in milsurplus. :(

Trent,

Actually that is a Yugo M48 that I refinished the stock, it was really dirty and oily, and I stripped it and stained it in a lighter finish, the metal was in EX condition, but the stock was nasty, but a few hours of pure love and there "she" blows............ ;D I could never pay $300 + for a Yugo M48 or a M48A.........just my $0.02 worth.

OK guys, here is my problem,
I bought a M44 Mosin Nagant in excellent condition, unissued and still in ,here is the bad part, COSOMOLINE! When it arrived the preservative on the barrel was starting to flake off, and I thought that it would be a simple task to clean. At some of the web site forums I here tails of folks going through a job of work to get them cleaned up and cosmoline free. Is there some where I can go to get instructions on how to get the stuff off of and out of the rifle? Any help would be appreciated!

HERE ARE SOME WAYS

http://www.surplusrifle.com/shooting/co ... moline.pdf

http://www.sksboards.com/smf/index.php?topic=4628.0

pick a way that suits you

I like to use paint stipper and hot water and soap wash of the paint striper
at the same time it raises the grain of the wood and pulls out a lot of the dents in the wood
