Hey all, first post. Been lurking for a while and have seen other PA-63 questions, so I hope this is alright.

Does anyone know if the Kassnar PMK safety lever has a different shape on the exterior than the PA-63? Or if an actual Walther safety would fit in a PA-63?

I like my PA-63's but HATE the safeties! I would like to get the outer surface of the safety to be contoured more like a Makarov instead of the low profile, finger slicing, hard to manipulate piece of crud that it is!

Worst case, I guess, would be checking into getting a replacement safety machined with a different face, but I sure would like to find a drop in kind of replacement.

Just thought I'd let everyone know how this turned out.

The AP9 safety does fit in the PA-63, however, the cuts in it are different so it will not allow the firing pin to work correctly.

Oh well, back to the drawing board. I may try to have one machined and see what kind of a unit cost it would be. I think a lot of people would prefer the Mak profile to the tumb operating surface. If I ever make some headway and they actually quote me a decent price I'll let everyone know.

Hello. I just found this forum and I hope to share my enthusiasm and learn some new things about the FEG PA63 pistol.

As for the safety, I have found that reshaping with a Dremel tool and carbide cutter can provide some nice results. I also used the carbide cutting bit to round off the edges of the safety detents. The action was immediately lightened. It was a tad rough at first, but after playing with it for a week, it gives a nice, smooth "snick" each way.

Thanks for the input. I assure you, I cleaned it out very thoroughly when modding it. I used q-tips and a toothbrush. I even pulled a bit of cloth through the firing pin hole a few times with forceps. Then I put one drop of oil down and spread it around the channel, and wiped an oiled cloth over the firing pin before reassembling.

I noticed that the trigger-safety plunger on the top of the firing pin had worn through the bluing on the inside top of the slide, and the worn strip looks a tad rough. I bet that's the main culprit. When repeatedly dry-firing, esp in DA, I sometimes got a duller sounding strike. I wonder if taking some fine sandpaper to the strip would help out. I initially balked at doing this due to concerns over corrosion resistance. But I have since learned that bluing is little more than cosmetic. Next time I open it, I might give it a go. As it is, with the 13 lb mainspring, I get a pretty healthy sounding strike each time, and testing with a pencil shows good consistency of launch distance.

Actually, I was thinking that ideally, someone might consider making a teflon-coated plunger as an aftermarket part. I guess they would have to charge a lot, though, for such a small market.
I think a rounded bit of durable, oil-resistant plastic, coated in teflon would be perfect. Perhaps a mushroom shape that would fit inside a slightly larger diameter aftermarket plunger spring - in lieu of the little metal cap that goes over the standard spring.

Just a note on the PA63 safety. When I got mine a week ago it took two hands to operate. No amount of cleaner or oil would loosen it up. I finally took the whole slide assembly apart and used brake fluid to clean out the crud. It now works great. good luck with yours.
