Boy, that ain't a bad finish at all. And it says it absorbs lubricant for less wear. Sounds good Norm. If you find out more let me know.(price will they do pistols etc.)

I don't know anything about this particular refinishing operation (Wayne's) but if it is true black oxide technology then it is no different than bluing. Instead of blue it is black. It is not Tenifer or Teflon or Tungsten - it is achieved by oxidation - just like bluing.
Kahr company some time ago came up with their MK9 pistol called the BOX. It had the black oxide (BOX) on the slide and if you were to watch the Kahr Club on the Glock forum you would find many owners of BOX pistols unhappy because any scratch and wear pattern would immediately started to show.
I would be careful.
No such problem with Durakote or any ceramic and/or teflon finish.

Isn't that what they use on Ak's?

I think they use mostly baked on paint or powder on AKs, even high-end ones. The reason I think that is that denatured alcohol quickly removed some of the finish on my Arsenal SLR when I tested it, and that wouldn't happen to black oxidation, I don' think. Not all the parts on an AK are of the same type steel, and some of it won't take bluing well at all. That would make a funky looking rifle of differently shaded parts if blued or oxidized. So, for cost-effective achievement of a consistent color, AK manufacturers have gone a different route.

Wiping with gun oil will keep a BOX finish from showing those abrasions and aid in protecting the steel finish.
