I was at the range today practice for the comp. shoot! On the fourth shot the slide locked up. It appears that the slide actually looks as though it went past the slide lock and is resting on the face of the bolt. Can this happen, what caused it and does anyone know how to fix it. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

pop out mag
open the trigger guard
then take a rubber or plastic mallet or the handle of a big screw driver and smack it back toward the hammer

DO NOT PRI OFF

make sure the small end of the recoil spring goes on barrel first when putting it back together

OK Norm, I whacked the slide with a mallet and it jumped right into battery. Is there anything I can do or need to do to keep this from happening again? Any idea what caused it to happen in the first place. Thanks for the help Norm, you are a saint!!

You're not kidding, I put my recoil spring on backwards one time and I thought my slide welded to the frame. I was'nt even firing it. I was putting it back together after cleaning it. Normsutton gave the same wood mallot advice and it fixed it. I have'nt and won't make that same mistake again.

Norm, I noticed when I took apart the 64 the recoil spring was on correctly. Little end first. Is this something I need to figure out so it does'nt happen again or do you know of something else that can cause the slide to lock up.

the slide should not pop up like that unless the recoil spring is in backwards, or the trigger guard is moving down when its fired you may have a weak trigger guard spring . you might be able to find one at a hardware store that will fit also you might want to change the recoil spring if you haven't already

Good deal Norm, I think I want to change out the frecoil spring. I kind of thought that might be the culprit but I was'nt sure. I think you confirmed my feelings. Thanks again Norm.

OK Norm, after getting back to the range my 68 locked up again. After checking the spring tension on the trigger guards I came to the conclusion the spring on the trigger guard on the 68 was alot softer than the other two. Got to get a new trigger guard spring. Thanks for the help once again.
