Anybody ever use Duracoat on their P-64's (or any other firearm for that matter)?

It seems like good stuff. I just coated my two spare mags with the matte black Duracoat, they are curing as I type this. I coated the bodies, followers, the metal part of the bases and I even coated the springs.

I will post a pic of the two coated mags next to the uncoated one once they are cured if you guys would like. You guys can give me some feedback about it.

I eventually want to coat my P-64 with the stuff but I want to see how the Duracoated mags hold up under normal CCW usage before I do.

I don't know how it will stand up on a handgun, but I have used it on 2 Browning 1919A4 guns and it is holding up very well. It is tough to scratch and it is resistant to bore cleaning solvents & oils. This is not much help, but maybe some; I like the stuff!

I'll be most interested to see how it works.. all my pistols could use a little dressing up...

When you sprayed them with Duracoat did you do a complete disassembly of the actions and sprayed everything (except for working surfaces and such) or just field strip them and mask holes to keep the Duracoat from gumming up the works? I'm still in debate over how to prep my P64 in regards to disassembly and how far I should take it apart.

I will be sure to post about how the stuff holds up on the mags. Reassembly cure time is 24 hours and your supposed to be able to use it lightly afterwords, but full cure time is 2 - 3 weeks so I will wait about 2 weeks before i go to the range and blast half a case of ammo with the mags. I will post a range report when I do.

Duracoat really cut down the glare, and covered up the electro-pencil serial # pretty good to.

did you use the air brush one or the spray can one

whoops forgot to say they are neat looking heard it also has a lubricating benefit although they claim it does not

Thanks. I used the airbrush kit, I dont think I could have gotten an uneven coat if I tried. So far I'm happy with the results. Not sure if its self lubricating or not although it feels like it will hold oil.

Did you bake it in the oven? My gunsmith did some type of coat that he baked for a while on a custom MPA 45 carbine. Has held up well.

Looks good. Since my p64 has such good blue I won't be doing it but the paint on my new CZ82 gives me the heebie-jeebies, especially where they stamped the import marks on it. I wouldn't mind trying it but do you think the painted finish should be removed first? And if so, any thoughts on the best way to do that?

Yes, looks REALLY good! My CZAK still has pretty good finish too--but if that stuff will cover over that electro-pencil stuff, I might seriously consider re-doing it with the Duracoat.

Yes, I baked it in the oven at 120 some-odd-degrees (as low as my oven would get) for 15 mins. The directions recommend doing this although its not necessary, I think its only to get the initial drying done quicker...full cure time is 2 - 3 weeks. The same company does make what they call DuraHeat that has to be oven cured at 200 something degrees or so.

directions in the kit and on the website say that Duracoat best adheres to parkerized and blued finishes. they don't recommend bare metal and I cant imagine that the paint on your CZ82 would make a very good base-coat either. I guess you could strip the paint off and use cold blue as a base and after all that use duracoat. Is it really painted? I guess I haven't looked that closely at any CZ82s...

I have to look very hard in order to see were the electro-pencil serial number is on those two mags.

The finish on my P64 isn't bad, there are a few worn off spots from the holster and it does get hot down here in Florida and I sweat on it alot...some surface spots appeared this year on the slide near the safety lever :'( . There has always been a bubble underneath the blue in front of the trigger guard from were they put the import marks. I want to get rid of those spots and protect it from more, I'm really hoping that this duracoat will do the trick.

Did my last post read like Im some kind of sales rep for the stuff? I swear I'm not...
