I'm new to the P-64.
I think it will make a nice ccw weapon once a few bugs are worked out and hence I seek your opinions and suggestiona.

1) While shooting, my safety sometimes self engages
2) Reliability- What can I do to maximise it

Thanks,
George

George,

Welcome to the Forum! We hope we can answer your questions and help out.

OK, you have some good questions to answer. The answers I will provide are based on many former comments on the Forum and some of my opinions. I am sure others will jump in with their comments too.

My Answers

1. This problem has been reported before. What we think has happened is the spring that holds the Safety Detent in place has been "kinked or crimped" during assembly. The Safety Lever needs to be removed and the Spring/Detent assembly checked, lubricated and reassembled. Here is a link to the procedure: http://p64.proboards67.com/index.cgi?bo ... 1131295965

2. The P-64 is usually very reliable out of the box, but sometime, like anything mechaical, there is problems. For CCW carry, I recommend that you purchase a Wolf 16# Hammer Spring . THis will give you better trigger pull in SA and much better in DA. There are many thread on this easy procedure, read them and find the best instructions. I think there is a "Sticky" on this subject.

When the pistol is new, there is a rust protection oil on the entire pistol. This oil ig not good for lubricating, so remove ALL this and reapply a good grade of gun oil. I use Breakfree oil and on all sliding surfaces, I use wheel bearing grease (thin a little with oil for cold climates).

Check for any small burrs on the metal and remove with a small file or sandpaper. Polish the Feedramp with some polishing compound. Be gentle when polishing as you ONLY want to polish and not remove metal or change any contours of the ramp.

Find the best ammo your pistol likes. It has always amazed me that two pistols made side by side can prefer one brand or bullet weight over onother, go figure. Anyway, try several brands and pick the one the pistol and you like the best. Here is one link that may help: http://p64.proboards67.com/index.cgi?bo ... 1143082886

3. This is one tought questions. It is more a personal decision, but read the threads in the holster section of the Forum and pick the one you think will feel best for your carry. I carry in pocket because I don't like the feel of a holster around my waist, and it is uncomfortable. The winter is easy, I just carry in my coat pocket, LOL

I hope thi shas helped some and I am sure others have their thoughts that will be better than mine!

Thank you for the welcome and the answers.
It is greatly appreciated!

I will also look into a new recoil spring as this little p64 seems to have tremendous recoil, alot more than my .45.

Well, we are all awaiting the day that Wolff makes us a heavier recoil spring. Rumor has it that they are working on it, but I haven't heard anything concrete on the anticipated release date.

If you are interested in a pocket holster, you should at least give HBE Leather a look ... Eric makes NICE stuff and a pocket holster for the 64 should only run 45 or 50 bucks and will be 10 times nicer than the flimsy fabric ones.
