I've been looking for an inexpensive third pistol. Today just for jollies I went into a local bait and tackle shop that carries a few pistols with their rifles and shotguns. They had a Makarov for $299 and talking with clerk I mentioned my P 64. He said he had a PA 63 in the back. He brought it out and it looked almost flawless. The action of the slide as well as the fit and finish looked as if it was well oiled and had good care. For $179, I found it to hard to pass up. Now where to hide it from my wife. Well at least i don't need to buy another type of ammo.

BTW, how do I tell the age of my new toy?

OurBigBlueHouse, I am sure that a search on the PA-63 sites will turn up some info. I read that the frames were one way to narrow it down to a "set" of years. Originally they had Aluminum(?) frames, then on "so-and-so date" they switched to a titanium/aluminum alloy(?) , one year they switched this or that, etc... good luck and let us know if you find a definitive way of dating them ! .. that is one way i have seen. The FN type should be easier to afix a date onto. G
BTW... Here is a manual for it . http://www.tnguns.com/warehouse/docs/PA63Manual.pdf
also if you'll read thru this, you can get an idea on what others are saying about FAEG PA-63 Dating.

Manufactured by Fémáru es Szerszámgépgyár NV, later called Fegyver és Gázkészülékgyár ('FÉG'), Budapest, 1963-90
Say "Fegyver és Gázkészülékgyár" ten times as fast as you can ! Shew!
I have noticed different grips on several of the PA-63's, so that may be an indication of a design change dating at the factory. Also: I do not know if they ever had "Import Changes" made in width /height to make it pass U.S.A. regulations as I think i recall reading some P-64 pistols might have been . ( as in : Wider grip(thumbrests) to fit size requirements here. Good Luck ! G
