Good point-- The way we do it here is essentially to give those in control (pastor, trustees, deacons, whoever) the capacity to speak for the body as a whole and prohibit handguns, just like any private property owner can, by appropriate notice... The offense is not actually toting a gun, it's trespassing, the way it works here...

So what would give the state the right to ban guns in a church? Since when are churches public property?

BTW, as i noted elsewhere, our pastor told me he didn't understand why the discussion even arose--ie he has no problem with it... I've been heeled in church pretty much ever since
