I can always tell when someone has a brunt firing pin or a blow out extractor that they have using WOLF ammo, I don't know if it the powder they use or their primers, I do know the RUSSIAN powder factory's sell their swiping's and some flare powder is in the mix , I have seen brass cases with holes burned in the sides form this powder.( normal smokeless powder dose not get that hot only flare powder )

don't know about being corrosive
and I know guy's will say that they have fired 1000's of rounds WOLF ammo with out a problem and you can have problems any ammo, but with Wolf ammo have 4 times the chance of having a problem over any other
brand and I say that to much
but shoot what you want
now I'm done with my rant

Norm, I like your advice about reloading. I've accumulated all the bits parts and pieces and winter is coming. I promised myself I'd start building some 9x18 and I hope to turn some out over the next couple of months.
To go with my 15,000 rounds of store-bought 9x18.

I sure have thought about reloading again. I used to reload .38/.357. It sucks that a few years ago I thought I would not do it anymore and gave away all my equipment. :-X Oh well That old press was about wore out anyway. ;D

So is Brown Bear / Silver Bear ammo OK? I've used 7.62x39 WOLF in my AK and haven't had any issues.....but then again, an AK will feed anything except asparagus.
It seems like I've run it through my Bushmaster CAR-15 and had jams.....but then again, everything eventually jams in "those black rifles."
Seriously though....are we just talking stay away from 9x18 and 7.62x54R WOLF ammo, or ALL WOLF ammo?
I'd rather take advice of people here that I respect than risk messing up a gun.

I could have picked up some wolf in the camo boxes for 9.99 but passed because of our respected mentor. I say that
with all due respect.

I wouldn't say to stay away from all Wolf ammo, the Wolf Gold line is made by Prvi Partizan and is good stuff. I had some slight pitting in the barrel of a Mosin carbine after shooting some Wolf "Black Box". Never had any problem with all the 1950's Commie ammo I shoot because I know it's corrosive and clean accordingly. Didn't do that with the Wolf.

As usual, I'm with Norm 110% on this. I use Wolf Gold Performance 8mm Mauser 196gr Copper SPs for my shooter M48A and Prvi Partisan .30-06 Springfield 150gr SPs for my M1 with the scout scope and for my Remington '03A3. The Silver Bear and Brown Bear are good ammo for the 9x18 pistols. I've shot a bunch of Silver Bear and never had a problem with it. From what I understand, Brown Bear is made at the same places and to the same standards using the same basic components as the Silver Bear, and the multitude of reports I've read or heard on it have all been positive.

I was wondering the same thing, Trent. I am currently trying to get the stuff together to reload 223 but I would like a stock of factory loaded 223 and the silver bear from AIM has the best price on it right now.

As of last year both Brown and Silver Bear are now made at the Barnaul factory. That place has had a good reputation over the years for their 9x18 and their older Barnaul blue box, Tiger, and RAM has been some of the most highly regarded 9x18.
I had 2 squibs with the older 115-grain Silver Bear from the LVE plant. Not many others reported problems with it, but when you have a brand that miss-behaves that badly it sticks with you.
Other calibers such as .223 may not be made at the Barnaul factory. I don't track that caliber. Sliver Bear, Brown Bear, and Wolf are just "umbrella companies" that contract with the various factories. Rather than the brand name, I'm more interested in where it's made. Barnaul seems to have put out the highest quality, then LVE (Low Voltage Equipment Plant), then TCW (Tula Cartridge Works - the maker of the old Wolf 100 and 109-grain).
And I agree with the Prvi Partisan comments. There hasn't been a lot of experience with their 9x18 but their plant has a great reputation.
