Trent,

As far as I know only the Super Center Walmarts (with the exception of a few of the regular stores) that are in or near predominate hunting/shooting communities are continuing to sell guns. I am also pretty sure that if you special order one from the website you can pick it up from any store you want.

I have anjdrifter's problem...to many firearm choices. Assuming the gun possibilities are endless including custom guns or what have you. My choice for a long gun would probably be a medium weight bolt rifle in 22-250 with a 20" barrel, synthetic stocks, iron sights and probably something similar to a Creedmore sight. My handgun of choice is 4" .41 magnum revolver.

I agree with barnett I like the 22-250, that will kill anything I can get in my sights.

But I like a 3", 44 mag for self defense. I've never shot a 41 mag so I can't compare.

Hey Anjdrifter--is that the same "Plinkster" that sells at Wal-mart for just over a C-note?? Not that I would ever buy a gun there again--what an ordeal... :(
Yup thats where I got it now my local wally world stopped selling guns, at least they still have ammo but heard they are on way out of that too.
I got the Plinster for when my grandchildren come to visit got one of those 20. scopes on it for the money it is pretty good. HOWEVER when the grandchildren met me at Knob Creek they liked firing the auto stuff, like in machine gun .. boy they get big fast.

The Walmarts around KC and south in Belton still have a full line of guns. No handguns.
I got 3 .22's at one time and it went smoothly. I got the Mossberg plinkster 702, Stevens Semi-auto , and a Savage Mk ll Bolt action rifles for my 3 son in laws. They are all fine guns and each was $105 or less. All are good guns. I have started to see much better prices now at my fav. gun store, so I will get them there from now on.
As for being on an island--- That slingshot would be hard to beat as far as not running out of ammo.
But my choice of weapon would be lots of long ropes. G I know it sounds odd but your mind is your best weapon.

We're lucky the Wally Worlds up here even still carry archery supplies and BB guns never mind the ever shrinking supply of ammo..and goodness forbid a gun!!

A friend picked up some ammo from a WW recently and handed over his Firearms Idenitfication Card, allowing him to purchase rifle/shotgun ammo. The clerk said she wanted his drivers license. Didn't carer about the FID card and insisted on getting his date of birth from his license. A big no no in MA. You need at minimum an FID card to but ammo and a LTC for handgun ammo.

I guess you get what you pay for in both product and employees.

Oh, I like the gun I got there well enough--just a Savage bolt-action .22 for Christian (bought it some time ago, you understand)--but it took FOREVER to get out the door with it >:(

To answer the original question here--I think I would go with a 12-gauge repeating shotgun, with bird and buck and slugs for ammo-- that or one of those Savage/ Stevens combo guns, .22 mag or .22 hornet over 12-and I wouldn't worry about the second gun, maybe my faithful Mak...

If I just had the choice of two guns I would carry a remington 870 with all of the choke tubes and a slug barrel. My second would be a remington 552 and s l and lr. ammo. I think that would cover most bases.
